Understanding the DH and Subs
Fed
DH is batting for #22. #22 pinch runs for DH. DH is now no longer in effect, correct? #22 is now in the slot for the DH. Later in game when #22 comes up to bat can the player who was the DH re-enter for him and bat? |
When the Defensive player (#22) runs for the DH, the role of the DH is terminated. Since the original DH is a starter, he can reenter, but only in the batting slot both he and #22 occupied. It is impossible for #22 and the DH to be playing defense at the same time.

[QUOTE]Under Normal conditions YES
I am at work an do not have my books but I seem to recall a situation in which one player GETS injured and the ONLY SUB the manager had left was the original DH who is sitting on the bench. Like I said not certain but I believe there is a Special clause when a player is hurt, ill etc. that would allow the DH to go back into the game and thus you could have a situation where both 22 and the DH are now playing defense.
