FED test discussion 2009
 

Hi Guys,

I'd like to try something on here to see how well it works. Many of us on here do FED games and if you do, you do the FED test. I'd like to see if we couldn't get some type of discussion going on the test. If you're just looking for the answers, this isn't the thread for you. However, if have a question, and you post the rules/case plays that you've researched to find the answer, then I feel that it would be appropriate for us to help each other.

The frauds will be spotted easily. I think others will find value in discussing these questions. Basically, if you have a question, do some research on your own first before simply posting the question. "I looked, but couldn't find" it won't work.

I've completed the test and many of the answers are word-for-word in the rule book but every year there are gray area questions. That's where this thread comes in.

Well, I suppose I can get things started. I've done the test and have a couple questions in mind.

With runners on second (R2) and third (R3) and one out, the batter hits a fly ball to center that is caught. The runner at third leaves early and both runners touch home on a bad throw from the outfield. the defense successfully appeals the runner leaving early at third. Neither run will count.

My thoughts on this were originally that one run would count because it would be a time play, but then rule 8-2 ART 6-h (p 50) says that only runs scoring ahead of the legal appeal would count if the appeal was the third out.

Where can I find the Fed test?

If R2 left early nad was out on appel, then R3's run would count.

But, with R3 out, no runs can score -- a trailing runner can never score when a preceeding runner mkaes the third out. That's true in all codes.

Well, in MN, if you do high school ball, you pay your annual dues to the high school league and they send you a test, rule book, case book, and a nifty insert that addresses many finer points.

Not sure how other state organizations operate

Sounds just like Kansas.

We get a book every other year (just changed from every year) No test for baseball. Online test for Football and basketball.

No test for the sport with the most complex and "interpretive" rules of the three sports. Incredible.

In those years you do not get a rule book, do you get inserts or some other written notification of chages made in the rules?

My first year here in Louisiana but, this year we went on line and took the test from NFHS site. I actually thought it was quite straight forward with the book and case book. The one I got wrong was one of those "duh, what did you mark that answer for " questions..

Anyway, I remember reading that question a couple of time and wondering why no run would score, then "duh" I realized it was R3 that didn't tag up. As Bob already pointed out and as just recently discussed in another thread the correct reference has to do with a "preceeding runner making the third out".
