When the catcher interferes with the batters swing, ie: bat hits the catcher's glove, and interference is called by the umpire, what is the official scoring for the batter. Is it an official at bat? How do you figure in to the batters batting average? Is it included? Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks.

No at bat is charged, and no effect on batting average.

OBR 10.13 (f) When an umpire awards the batter or any runner or runners one or more bases because of interference or obstruction, charge the fielder who committed the interference or obstruction with one error...

Bob's answer is correct as usual, but perhaps confusing in that ordinarily a base on error IS charged as an at-bat. But the rules further provide:

"[N]o time at bat shall be charged against a player when . . . . (iv) He is awarded first base because of interference or obstruction."

10.02(a)(1).
