3 Man rotation

Can someone post the situations in which you rotate in 3 man system.I attended a NCAA camp and we covered it but my kids threw all my notes and handouts away that i received @ the camp......Thanks and please keep the smart-@$$ comments to yourself,I'm asking for help, not hinder!

Dude, just buy a CCA Manual. There are too many situations to simply list without some specific situations to describe. All the situations are basically in the manual.

And the fact that you asked for people to not be a smart@azz, you invited those kinds of comments.

Peace

Reminds me of some saying about teaching a man to fish...

Bases empty - 7
R1 - 10
R1, R2 - 7
R1, R2, R3 - 5
R1, R3 - 8
R2 - 9
R2, R3 - 7
R3 - 3

No, I am not about to list all 56. Your welcome.

  • Any hit that is not in your coverage area requires you to rotate in.
  • Any hit that is in your coverage area requires you to cover the ball then come in (when the play is over) if there if a runner on 1st.

That is just a basic synopsis of 3 man coverage but there are exceptions and there is just no way to cover all of it. Mr. Rutlage is correct, order the CCA manual. You have plenty of time to study it before NCAA starts.

highlights

5 major situations when you rotate: (assuming no one goes out)

No one on - multi base hit
R1, batted ball leaves infield...if it's not caught then it drives a rotation
R1, R2 - caught fly ball (if dropped, it's a reverse rotation)
R1, R3 - base hit through the infield
R3 -multi base hit

2nd reverse rotation situation is bases loaded - and batted ball leaves the infield

The reference to "56" may cover all the other permutations....but the key is that when the above situations occur, get thinking about where you may have to go before the pitch is thrown.

You mean this one? :D

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.

Teach a man to fish and you lose your fishing monopoly!

Watch what your partners are doing. 3 man can become 2 man real quick so cover eachother's rear ends.

If you go out, go out hard and don't come back until the play is over.

Don't rotate unless the ball goes into the outfield.

DO NOT OVER-HUSTLE! Over-hustling can be fatal in the three ump system. If you don't know where you are going, check where your partners are (see above), stay ahead of the runner entering your area and don't leave an even number of umpires at any base.

If you are U1 rotating home, don't take the play until you are set.

Someone else gave you the rotations. I had to come up with something different.

So, three umpires at any base is okay?

You could contact the camp and ask for replacements.

I am not sure if this is even a serious post. How can it be answered? The CCA manual for MOST assoc. is probably the best advice. In the GBL we use a modified 3 man rotation that leaves the PU home MOST times, but that's a different clinic altogether. If you are truly asking about rotations AFTER attending, maybe you should wait and avoid 3 man until you can attend again.

1) PU follows same rules as for 2-person.

2) If someone goes out, revert to 2-person.

3) If no one goes out, look to your left. (a)If there's an empty base, run toward it -- rotation. (b) If there's not an empty base, reverse rotate.

Those three rules will cover 95% of the situations.

A simple "get the CCA Manual" would have sufficed. No reason to be a jack*ss.

As far as your assoc. using this modified 3 man system ... that sounds like too much work. Just use the CCA mechanics. Why make things more difficult?

try to remember that if you are U1 you don't have to commit to home unless the R1 commits to 3rd.. if R1 stops or just rounds 2nd you dont have to commit to Home... that might help a little bit.
