NFHS Supplemental Publications

Looking for opinions here. How useful are the Rules by Topic and Simplified & Illustrated Rules books (NFHS rules only)? I'm looking for a little more education than what I get with the rulebooks, and was wondering if these are helpful.

Thanks

I thought the Rules by Topic is great. I breaks the rule down and gives you caseplays......oh wait its kind of the big brother of the case book.

Agreed. It gets you focused on the rules that you are most likely to need.

Both books are excellent! Simplified and Illustrated helps with the coaches who cannot or will not read the rule book. I tell them to read the comic book version and they enjoy it and it makes our job easier.

The comic book version ... :D

The one knock I was going to make on the illustrated one is the hoaky pictures.

There is only one glaring error in the Simplified & Illustrated Rules Book and that it says that it is a balk for F1 to stand in front of the pitcher's plate take a sign from F2. We all know that there is no such prohibition. The only requirement is that F1 shall take or simulate taking a signal after intentionally contacting the pitcher's plate.

Do you have any proof to back up this assertion? Anything from NFHS? I need more than an individual's word before I will ignore a publication authorize by NFHS.

I'm thinking MTD is referring to this thread here:

NFHS Forum: takes the signal from the catcher

It's about 300 posts deep, so pace yourself while reading :D

The NHFS Forum is one of the most screwed up places to try and get answers to FED rules. It if filled with so called "know it alls" that haven't got a clue when it comes to FED. Just go down the above link about 30 posts and you will see for yourself. It's a shame because, it once was a pretty good forum.

Boy, I wish I had seen Ozzy's post before I followed aschramm's link. I'll never get that time back.
