Anyone tried SMITTY apparel?
|
I'll give you my experiences:
3 shirts- two navy, 1 powder. The powder was fitted perfectly, but both navy had really tight cuffs on the upper arm, mde me look like Ed Hoculi (?). The shirt material is the softer kinda, not like the Honigs shirts. I've had a couple of small pulls from where my velcro from my mask hits. Overall not bad. Two Jackets: Arms seemed short. Everytime I made a signal it rode up halfway to the elbow. My biggest complaint is that the liner ripped/pulled/was undone after just one wearing and washing as directed. Complained about the first one, got the second one as a replacement, and it did the same thing. I'm taking them to a seamstress to get relined, one with a mesh, and another with maybe a thicked mesh or fleece type thing (Early spring games in the north). Pants: Haven't worn these but have had several partners that have. Seem to be a little fuller cut. More like the athletic cut from Honigs. However in my opinion they seemed to look cheap, like walmart editions. Could have be older models but just what I thought. Also they seemed to wrinkle easily and snag/pull/pill in certain areas. I noticed that on some of the pairs. Also it seemed like they developed a noticable wear pattern in the knee where the shinnie rubbed. Again this is what I noticed. I think that the products are getting better though. I had one partner that had the navy shirt that the collar was shifted around the neck and one side was lower than the other. |
They named their umpire gear "Smitty".
That's all I needed to know. (I mean really, how dumb was that?) |

There's a reason that they're being discounted. Worthless crap. The guy at ump-attire.com should wake up to the fact that quality counts, and not just profit margin on each unit. He needs to carry better attire than Smitty if he wants to be called ump-attire. |

Why the name Smitty?
The company is named after it's first officiating product: The whistle lanyard that attaches to a loop at the collar of a basketball official's shirt. These lanyards are called Smitty's.

They can still change it, because now it's lame.
There used to be this popular diet candy called AYDS ...pronounced the way you think it's pronounced. They were unwilling to change their name also. |
Thanks all. I prefer quality as well.

I use the smitty brand shirts for basketball and I like them better then I do the honigs shirts I have ever worn. The smitty shirts fit great and like very professional. Every honigs shirt I have ever owned have always ripped or worn out really quick. However, then smitty shirts have done just the opposite.

My experience with smitty has been very good.
I own a pair of plate and combo pants from smitty, both are roughly 4 years old and look just as good as a brand new pair. They are the best pants you can buy for the amount it costs. The shirts are ok... They run a little big for my liking. They used to have really tiny buttons on them but I think they have since changed them. |
I use Smitty's brand for summer umpiring only. The pants do look somewhat cheap.
Use the Smitty's for summer and the Gerry Davis for regular season. |
