2008 Game count....
129
2 more this weekend if the weather holds. Plus however many I do at the NCUS. Probably about 6. So, about 137 for 2008. About 7 less than last year. I was trying to "take it easy" this summer, but wound up with a much bigger spring schedule than I usually do. Post yours. |

2008 Game Count
I worked 20 games. Down from the 22 I worked last year. But we had a very wet spring.
Regards, |
I'm just under 100 with 27 rainouts...
|
25 Dates Total. I had probably 10 dates cancelled in March and April. That is about half then normal. I loved every minute of it. ;)
Peace |

But, I'll bite. About 30, including playoffs and the NC/SC All-Star games. (See, I can play too!) |
Numbers, numbers, numbers! We deal with them at work, at home, on the field and now on the forums! It is obvious that numbers give some people a sense of power, others a feeling of inadequacy and others seem to get an almost sexual satisfaction with them!
So to those who "get a rise" out of numbers, I will give you my tally for the season. High School - I worked more games than I should have but not as many as I wanted to. Summer - Not enough time to do enough games to make me sick of the heat. Babe Ruth Regionals - Night after night under the lights, sucking wind with the dew points nearing 90° yet still keeping up with partners and players much younger than I. Fall - all scheduled games (mine) rained out. There - I hope I provided enough stimulus to satisfy the multitude of the masses. |

106 game plus 19 rainouts (rain dates) from March 18 - August 3. Took (as I usually do) the fall off -- one "alumni" game since.
|
Interesting. I live in the NW, and only had about 3 rainouts this year. Had 5 other games that were cancelled for whatever reasons.
|
Blessings from the wifesky allowed me to do 155 games and counting...got rained out of a DH this evening..that puts the rainout total to about 24....probably get rained out this weekend also...
All in all it does have side affects...knees were sore, had to do some physical therapy twice a week before going to the ballpark for 4 weeks..my back is feeling the affects as well... Glutton for punishment? ...possibly, but I do love the game. |
Okay:
Spring: 23 HS softball, 7 rainouts--bad season for us, too 9 LL baseball, all but one on the little diamond 9 LL softball Summer (LL tournaments): 11 baseball, little diamond 3 big diamond 10 softball (1 state softball and 2 state baseball games) 42 softball 23 baseball Grand total: 65 |
76 and still going, probably end up around 90. Way down from peak of 117 about 4 years ago and reduction is on purpose. I don't count rainouts.

More than most, fewer than others.

Relaxing year
this was by far one of my most relaxing years, but a lot due to the fact that I moved to different part of the state.
But even having to get adjusted to new assignors etc., still able to have a lot of fun. Let's see had 16 HS dates, and then ended up calling more than I wanted in the summer due to a shortage of officials. Summer league (HS games) we had 14 dates and then another 12 games in state tourneys. But being new kid on the block it was fun working with new guys and of course dealing with new coaches all the time. I don't work games in the fall due to basketball. Thanks David |
72.
The last 4 are this weekend for college wood bat fall tournament. I really don't how some of you guys work so many games. The thought of working 100+ games has never crossed my mind. I guess, different strokes.... |
From 3/22 - 8/31
Spring 11 rec basketball games (finishing up) 6 HS baseball paid scrimmages 36 HS games 7 tournament games 2 state hs playoff games Summer 12 acme league(hs) games Rainouts - 9 Total - 63 baseball games I would do more, but it gets too hot for me in summer in the gear, so...I know, I know,.....I switch to (gulp) mens Slowpitch to finish the summer before football season. SP games= 110 Football (just to 8/31) 3 paid scrimmages 9 games (peewee) |
I have worked
100+ NCAA SB probably an equal # of Travel and rec 8 FAll ball 1 BB and still need the 1/2 game to make my quota. :D |
Without looking at my calendar I would say I did about 110 baseball games and 1 softball game (I'm going to cut back on softball next year).

I have done about 72 soccer games this year too. Approximately 40 more to go! |
Overworked and Underpaid
3
injured, bum shoulder 3 left handed games. Down from 150 or so. |
I dream of officiating like Tee: 20-or-so meaningful, fun games. Put the stuff away for 9 months.
But I'm too much of a glutton for punishment, I guess :D 85 baseball games, 35 varsity basketball games (the only level I work), and about 30 football games per year. Favorite sport these days is football, followed by basketball. |
Baseball - 163 so far with two more weekends to go (generally do 3 on Sat and 3 on Sun). Up about 30 games, had a lot of varsity rainouts in 2007.
Basketball - 167 to date, probably end up around 220, similar to last year. Have to tape my address, phone number and picture of the wife & kids to the steering wheel so I don't pull into the wrong garage and sleep with the wrong woman! On second thought............:D |
If you want to start including all sports I work, I probably do not work 100 games in all sports. I know I work less than 20 games during the football season (including playoffs) and I work only about 50-60 basketball games a year (varsity and college) and now 25 Baseball games, I really feel bad now. (NOT!!!!)
And every time I tell people I work three sports they look at me like I am the crazy one. I might work 3 sports, but I certainly do not work what I would call a lot of games. To be fair I do normally work more games during the baseball season, I just decided it was time to cut back a little. But I have not worked 100 baseball games in probably 10 years. And I also do not count basketball games during the summer because you are often working multiple games during a date and many of the games are camp related. In other words I paid to work those games and be evaluated. Those are also not "real" games by any stretch of the imagination. Peace |
My Game Count
Baseball:
Not nearly enough Basketball: Too Few Wrestling: Season too short Volleyball: Too many days off Football: Regretably Short Softball: one is too many! |

Website?
Do you all keep these stats yourself, or is there a website you track them on?
If there's not, would you be interested in one? I've been thinking of ways to keep track of my games, and thought I would release my work if there's a demand. |
An Excel spreadsheet works well and it's very simple.
|
I just count them down from Arbiter
|
And,
I just count them from "Reftown".
Regards, |
Since my baseball schedulers don't use Arbiter, I also use an Excel spreadsheet. Helps me track expenses and income for IRS purposes, and notes which games I have been paid for and which schools are being real slow.
|
75 games, ima go getter.

I didn't realize you were working football too, I'll have to pick your brain when I move (if you don't mind that is). :) |

I do football, basketball, and volleyball. Out of all the sports I do basketball seems to be the one i do for money. I like all the other three a lot, baseball is first love since i played it in high school and college. |
My game for Sunday just got canceled, so I am officially done with my first year. I counted 90 baseball games, the majority were U14 and under, with a high school JV game and some fall Perfect Game baseball. Plus 18 football game this fall.
I have to laugh at myself, Our assignor (who runs almost all his games through the arbiter, over 4000 this year, baseball only) was at our second association meeting this spring, and explained to us how it works. He gave an example of an umpire who already had about 20 games scheduled after registering to use the arbiter, and I thought that was a large amount of games at the time. Little did I know I'd do almost 5 times as many. That's OK though, got alot of good experiences (and a few bad) this year, and am already looking forward to next spring. |
