Favorite Unorthodox Shirt Colour

What kinds of colours have you heard of, and is there an unconventional colour of shirt that you like to wear? Pictures of various shirts are always a bonus. JM showed us pictures of pink shirts and I thought they looked very sharp. Officials Choice sells chocolate:

Any others you can think of?

I've got a dark maroon shirt that was custom made for a tournament I did in Venezuela last year - it's covered with sponsorship patches and actually looks kind of cool. It makes a great golf shirt, and looks like something a NASCAR driver would wear!

I was always partial to the Cream w/Black trim. Very cool and comfortable for here in this desert climate.

BretMan Tue Sep 23, 2008 08:19am

There are plenty of "independant" leagues around here with no specific uniform requirements. It's kind of nice to mix it up once in awhile, especially in an area where our FED ball is strictly navy blue or nothing at all.

Doing softball, too, powder blue gets thrown into the mix a lot. I love the look of black shirts and also like the cream. Red, I'm not so hot on, but usually throw one in the car "just in case". NSA softball has an official shirt that is white, with black trim and logos and they are a little bit cooler on a hot day- but look like crap after a dusty game!

Heck, I'll even break out an Elbeco once in awhile if I'm working solo on a cool day- really throws 'em a curve in an old-school kind of way.

Chocolate...I would be hesitant- if for no other reason than you would be giving ammunition to coaches to now say not only are are the calls you're making sh**, but you look like sh**, too!

I was kind of fond of John Muller's pink shirt that he wore for breast cancer awareness. I suspect it's difficult for a coach to go ballistic on a man wearing a pink polo shirt............

:eek: Heh, heh, heh! Here in my little corner of New England, you wouldn't even get on the field with a pink shirt, Tim! :D:D

Maybe Angel just accidently washed his cream shirt with his dirty brown socks...

There are lots of colors, browns included, that don't go with gray pants. Think of it this way: If you're wearing a gray suit, are you wearing any shade of brown shirt/tie? No, not unless your only taste is in your mouth.

Me, I like the maroon shirt, and the old +POS silver. The OC gray is okay, but not quite the same, contrasting shade.

For the those the dismiss the non-traditional, think about this. If the light blue shirt weren't already part of the MLB wardrobe, would you wear it?

johnnyg08 Tue Sep 23, 2008 01:33pm

I have the red, which I really like at first, but I couldn't see myself wearing it ever again...my new favorite is the light blue/black collar and black.

Unless you are wearing peanut butter slacks, that chocolate shirt should never see the light of day.

I only wear the red during Independece day tournaments...Other than that it's cream and delta blue..

I like the look of the grey. I wonder what colour undershirt would go with it.

A lot of people don't like the idea of a chocolate shirt, but I don't mind the idea of wearing one. I still wouldn't buy one from officials choice because their stuff is sh1t anyways.

Reference and / or examples, please. Otherwise, it's just unsupported slander.

FWIW, I purchased several shirts from them about 5 years ago. I didn't like them. For one thing, I got two different styles of material in the same order. For another, the collars on all the shirts were not symetrical and weren't cut right.

After hearing good things about the current batch of shirts, though, I decided to try them agian -- and I like the shirts (but they do run large). Someone pointed out to me that the white stripes on the black shirt are "thicker" than they are on shirts from different vendors.

I will also point out that I've had difficulty with their customer service (others ahve raved about it) -- once, I ordered three shirts, and they charged my credit card, and sent a "your order has been shipped" email After about a week, I got a notice that the shirts were on back-order. When I inquired as to why my card had been charged, I received a reply that the order would be free -- it was, but only for one shirt. I still needed the other two shirts, so I had to re-order. Yes, I came out slightly ahead, but it was still a hassle.

Well, the "chocolate" would be useful if I pooped on my shirt or if I liked chocolate bars and failed to find my mouth.

C'mon guys. The chocolate shirt is perfect for umpires who work for UPS.

I would go with a black undershirt as a first choice and a gray (Under Armour) undershirt as a second choice.

Tim (BigUmp56), being from CA would probably suggest pink or a tofu colored undershirt! :D

Problems with officials choice shirts:

1) The powder blue is a darker shade of blue than what everyone else wears.
2) The micromesh material is really cheap, and looks cheap too.
3) The stripes on the black shirt are too big.
4) You can see through the shirts, meaning if you're using one on plate you can see the bolts on the chest protector.

I don't like any unorthodox shirt colors. I haven't worn anything but the MLB colors in the last two or three years, and besides those I would stick to navy or powder blue.

Naw, I'm too far South of Baast'n. We say whatever!
Up thea, they root for the Red Soox and drink a beah at the game.
Down here, we duck the Yankee fans and say, Yo - Adrieaan!

Sorry about the Pink comment . I know several people who live in San Fran that would probably jump on a pink shirt (or the guy wearing it)!

(Please insert your best Andy Rooney voice here.)

Ever wonder why umpires wear light blue shirts? No one in charge of anything should wear light blue, it's a sissy color. It was fine when umpires wore postman shirts, but not any longer.

Everyone should own an OC long sleeved black shirt. They don't make the +POS lined long sleeved shirt anymore, and this is the next best thing.

Cream is too close to the color of a baseball after the second inning.

We should be wearing white for day games, and black for night. Night should be any time you need lights.

Everyone should be wearing the GD pants. There should be an expiration date for the heathers. Perhaps 31 Dec 2009, but not for softball. We need someone who will buy our old pants on eBay.

How many colors do other sports officials choose from? (No, soccer doesn't, nor will it ever, count.)

For God's sake, do away with all colored ball bags except black. They go with both the white and black shirts.

If you insist on wearing a hockey mask to a baseball game, at least get a haircut. You shouldn't be frightening the children with your crazy, sweat induced hairdo every time you remove that contraption.

Beanies. I think Jimmy Dugan summed up how I think about those.

And I don't care what they wear in MLB. They wear those silly short sleeved jackets, for heavens sakes. There's even a fellow that wears a plastic collar, like you put on a dog when you don't want him to lick himself. I don't even want to think about that any more.

Yes it was a real game, as in summer tournament. This tournament has a night or two where the umpires wear an unorthodox shirt or uniform to have a little fun with the blessing of the tournament. This was not during a regular high school or college game. It was a youth tournament with kids all over the world playing and this was a fun event. And the only people that seem to care are anal people who do not know how to have fun. I think I might have taken this picture. ;)

Peace

Thank you for making my point. The "majority of baseball umpiring methods" are just plain stupid. Case in point: There are still grown men wearing beanies, and trying to earn respect at the same time.

And cream is basically white, only if you get dressed in the dark.

I absolutely detest the charcoal gray slacks; I would never wear the cream colored or black shirts either.

I am a traditionalist or old school (not that Old School for you buys from the basketball forum) you might say. I really liked it when the MLB umpires went to the navy blue, powder blue, and red shirts with heather gray slacks. The navy blue shirt is the OhioHSAA shirt for both baseball and fastpitch softball; and naturally I have powder blue for ASA fastpitch softball and red for USSSA fastpitch softball. I utilize all three colors during the summer baseball season.

But my favorite unorthodox shirts are the white with navy blue collars and cuffs. Mark, Jr., and I bought a set for summer baseball; they really look sharp with heather gray slacks and navy blue hats.
