"And I looked, and behold a pale horse..."
I may be mistaken, but...
I was watching the Cubs-Cardinals game this evening and I'm pretty sure that I saw Bob Davidson "UN-call" a balk on Carlos Marmol that Alfonso Marquez had called. From what I saw, it was an elephant balk. He "sold it" to Marquez and, subsequently, to Tony LaRussa (sort of). When LaRussa went to talk to crew chief Mike Reilly about it, Reilly indicated that he would not be entertaining discussion on the subject and Tony dropped it. Just when you thought you'd seen everything. JM |
Bob Davidson sells everything. Like the HR that Reilly called correctly in the Yankee Stadium left field, when the ball hit the base of the foul pole, and BD came up from the plate hollering that it was foul. That was a couple months before IR, IIRC.

Bottom 8th, R1, starts at 2:24:50 on MLB TV if you want to look at it. From the 2B view it looks like a jab step without a throw to 1B which would be a balk. U2 starts to do something but PU comes out from behind the plate and motions something to U2. U1 and U3 are not in view but they probably had the best view on whether it was a jab step or a step back. Apparently they had nothing. But, it's MLB. It would, if I were a subscriber to MLB.tv.
