Time play

I was at Yankee Stadium Sunday for NYY - LAA game on vacation. Bottom of the 4th, 1 out bases loaded with Jeter on 3B and Abreu on 2B. Nady at bat hits a long fly to left. I was gonna watch the rotations and ump stuff but the fan took over so I'm watching the catch and throw which obviously has no chance of getting Jeter at home. LAA knows that also so the throw is going to 3B where Abreu (Yes, why was he going, everybody knows that's the only play) is tagged out and called out by U2 with a double fist pump in front of him facing 3B fom the inside. PU Rampuano waves off the run on time play and inning is over. The thing is, Jeter took off hard and I swear he had to be watching from behind the plate when Abreu got tagged out but I only could see it in my peripheral vision. Went to MLB.com for video and they don't show the runner crossing the plate view. They called it a baserunning error on Abreu but I can't believe Jeter slowed down enough for Abreu to be tagged right at 3B while Jeter hadn't touched home. This link does not help: http://mlb.mlb.com/media/player/mp_t...00&cid=mlb&v=3. Did anybody see this on TV with a view of the plate crossing? Nobody blinked an eye about the call but at least in the stands it was due to pure ignorance about time plays but that ignorance extends to the coaches and at least one time last year to some MLB umpires.

Didn't see it but consider, the call at 3B could have been somewhat delayed (show me the ball or such), so the HP umpire judges the runner at HP on when "he" see's the tag, not when he sees the signal..

they showed this like 8 times on TV with the split-screen view. it was definitely the correct call.

Watching the Angel telecast.....Jeter did not score before the play at 3rd. Actually wasnt close.

So wait: you're saying that the Yankees screwed up and the umpires got the call right? That's hardly plausible.

Indeed. Captain Clutch never makes mistakes.

That's Rapuano, as in Ed. He's a friend of mine. And the call wasn't that close.
