My first media mention! (yes, its a doozy!)

Town Newspaper:

---------------------

Sub headline: "Good pitching by F1 and F1 and Controversial Run lift Team A over Team B".

2nd paragraph:

"Team A got five solid innings from F1, a pair of clutch two-out hits in the fourth inning, and a controversial run as Team A knocked off Team B 4-3 on Sunday..."

7th paragraph:

"The controversial run was scored in the 2nd inning [...] setting up runners on 1st and 3rd.

A1 flew out to RF, which scored R3 and advanced R1 to second after an errant throw. However, Team B appealed that R1 left early, and the base umpire ruled R1 out, ending the inning. The run was ruled to have counted, but Team B protested the call saying the run should not have counted because R1 was forced out.

However, official scorers and the home plate umpire (yours truly) ruled that the run had scored because the run had scored before R1 was ruled out, allowing the run to stand.

"We left it up to the umpires," Team A coach said. "This home plate umpire, we have some experience with him. He was certain and he had an explanation."

-------------------

Well, I'm not sure about all the supposed controversy, and it would have been nice had the article been a more positive in the fact that the call was right, but I guess I'll go to bed tonight knowing that I made the right call and the whole world, if they have enough knowledge, will know that too.

Of course, I'm sure there are some people who think that "home plate umpire" is a dingbat, but screw 'em. :)

Ah yes, I remember him well. Good ol' Home Plate Umpire.

That reminds me of the guy in Ball Four who was nicknamed Name Player because that's how he was described in the paper during a trade. He was the Name Player.

Did the newspaper article really say "A1 flew out to RF"...?

Well,

Dash:

I think it is obvious, for whatever reason, that Tuss deemed it necessary to delete all references of team names and personal information from a news release.

The "A1" and "RF" references fit this style pretty clearly.

Regards,

Yes T and dash, I just took care of all player, team, and coach references.

If names and teams appear in the newspaper, you hardly need to conceal them here.

Regards,

I was referring to the "flew" part, not "A1." If A1 indeed flew out to left field, it would have been a much bigger story.

Tuss, I didn't realize that you were right down the road (about 30 miles Southwest of me)!

You both should meet for coffee and take advantage of the close proximity.

Okay, beers. To paraphrase the country song, I ain't much fun since I quit drinkin'. I would love nothing more than an ice-cold Corona, but as a diabetic I'm really not supposed to, so I don't.

Good call Tuss!
