Fan Interference Signal?

I went to the Giants-Dodgers game last Saturday (which was a great game unless you happen to be an LA fan :D). Kemp led the game off for the Dodgers with a smash to left center that would've fallen just short of the wall except that an idiot (subjective term) Dodger fan reached over and caught the ball.

The U2 ruled fan interference and awarded Kemp 2nd. What caught my eye was that U2 was grabbing his forearm similar to a holding signal in football. Is this a new signal? I haven't seen it used before.

Yes, that's the signal. No, it's not new.

It reminds me of what you would like to do to the fan. Grab his wrist and slap some handcuffs on!

I'd prefer to have thrown him over the wall and let Rowand deal with him but he did get ejected after the third pitch of the game. :D

How long has the signal been around?

I'm surprised this is the first I've seen of it. I don't think I've ever been taught it. :o

Consider yourself taught!!

Yeah I guess so! You enjoying all of the smoke, Bob?

RPatrino Mon Jul 07, 2008 05:15pm

OMG!! I just got word that there is a grass fire in Alameda County, Crow Canyon Rd and Norris Canyon. That's about 5 miles from my house. I was going to do a Legion game tonight at San Ramon Valley Hi, and the game got cancelled, the field's not ready. I wasn't looking forward to smoke and 100 degree heat.

Welpe Mon Jul 07, 2008 05:19pm

Hope your house is OK! I hear you on the heat and smoke, I have softball tonight in San Ramon. No cancellations that I'm aware of yet.

I have one word, HYDRATE!!

Hello fellow county residents,

Just drove from Sacramento to Concord. Visability in Vacaville was about a quarter mile with the temperature around 104. Very smokey. I'm not umpiring tonight but I am playing softball. Plan on hydrating with Coors Light before and after the game.(that's our normal pregame):) :)

Hey, I resemble that remark. LOL. Those guys like calling that kind of ball because the games are quick. Doesn't appeal to me either.

Actually it's water before the game, Coors Light after the game. I play bad enough already, I don't need additional help.:D :D

Maybe the weather will be clear enough for football season...

Steve, don't give the umpires too hard a time. I know it is a life or death situation and all. :D

SanDiegoSteve Mon Jul 07, 2008 07:46pm

Hey all you NoCals: Our thoughts and prayers have been with you guys. We know what it's like with all the fires from what we have been going through. My nephew is a fireman who just returned from your area after working the fires there. Hang in there and don't breathe too much of that smoke.
