I feel good about the protection this combo gives me.

Thoughts?

I'd like to see him in a big clear plastic bubble.

Ya gotta admit, using a hard shell and a raft is the ultimate of protection! I do believe however, that the hard shell belongs under the shirt and the shin guards belong on the inside the pants. Other than that, this may catch on!

Right up there with my idea of using a mask and a HSM at the same time :)

Nice! I think I'll try that!

Might as well put a cup in the back of his pants also, for maximum protection.

No but we could say you came up with a rasberry.

By the way, how did he get his head on backwards like that?

Our sons, MTD, Jr., and Andy, play on the same Sr. Knothole (15-18) team and you would love the uniforms for the umpires in this league.

shirts: Red, navy blue, or powder blue.

hats: Optional, and I do mean optional for both the PU and BU.

pants: Khaki cargo shorts for both the PU (yes that's correct and no need for ball bags) and BU.

chest protector: The PU umpire really does where it under his shirt.

shin guards: Looks really great on the PU with the khaki cargo shorts.

plate shoes: ARE YOU KIDDING??!! Both PU and BU wear sneakers.

Yesterday afternoon, the BU in our son's first game did not wear a hat and carried a bottle of water around with him while he was umpiring. Sometimes he held it in his hand but most of the time he did carry it in a pocket of his cargo shorts. He even would drink from it while F1 was taking his signs from F2. And he was a real rules maven (this league plays under NFHS rules): Runners on first (R1) and second (R2). Batter hits a single to left. R1 attempts to score and F7's throw to the plate goes out of play; at the time of F7's throw R2 was on second and the B/R was on first. Now we all now that R2 is awarded home and B/R is awarded third. Ah, but not according the BU the rules maven. R1 is awarded third base and the B/R is awarded second base because: Since R1 was standig on second base and not attempting to run to third base at the time of F7's throw R1 and the B/R are only awarded one base from the time of F7's throw.
