appeal on hr

Did we get this right? 1 out, runner on 3rd. Batter hits HR over fence. Batter/runner misses 2nd. Call batter/runner out on appeal, 2 outs 1 run counts.

Yes you did. Good call.

If the play started with two outs, then the appeal at 2B becomes a time play.

Papa,
I am not doubting you but how do you have a timing play on a dead ball?

bellsjc Mon May 12, 2008 12:13pm

Papa, I agree on the timing play. Now... what if 2 outs, runner on 3rd, Batter misses 1st on a HR? Still a timing play?

Nope. Batter never successfully attained 1B. That appeal, when upheld, negates that and any other run scoring on the play.

I'm 95.9% certain that, on a 2-out HR, a missed base appeal at 2B or 3B on B/R is a time play when there are any preceding runners. So, I'm looking for references.

Anyone else have any input or references otherwise?

Unless the 3rd out appeal is a force or the B/R at 1st (no runs score), any preceding runners score. It's not a time play - the ball went over the fence. You need a new ball before you can appeal the miss of 2nd, and that can't happen until the runners have completed their base awards. The appeal can be made without the ball in FED, but only after all runners have completed their advancement.

Jeez. Of course. Would be difficult to have a time-play appeal without a new game ball, now, wouldn't it?

Bells,
Same result, no matter how many out, with a proper appeal at 2B.

How about FED rules with a dead-ball appeal?

You can't have a dead-ball appeal until all awarded bases have been run.
