This ever happen to you?

The new vent-a-pants. You can even poke a hole in your underwear to catch some extra breeze. It must be even cooler if you don't wear a hat. |
Quote:
This is why one always wears heather gray compression shorts under one's plate pants. By the way, did anyone notice the PU was not wearing a hat either. Steve: When are you and Aerosmith go to play in Toledo, Ohio. :D MTD, Sr. |

Yes, Steven, it has. I rottted out a pair of PU pants from salty sweat, slowly let loose the threading. Standing upright, there was nothing to report. Squatting was another matter.
Considering that you are on your third name change, without any succcess in disguising yourself, what I find disgusting and laughable is your picking on other umpires while hiding behind a very thin, but insulating in your mind, veil of anonymity. Did you beat up the cheerleaders at school then call the same a sexual conquest? |
I'm sure its easy to sit here in my chair and nit pick this picture like I am perfect, but my goodness, no shin guards?!?! Those kids look older than 7, so that scares me a little. But wait a minute.... those pants are very tight, and if he were to put shin guards on..... his pants might.... oooooooo, i see why they ripped.
|
Is that a skid mark on his underwear or did he rip those also? Nice hat he's wearing under that mask!

Maybe it's the fact that he is there and forces the demand-supply curve so that you can't charge $200 per game that drives you to make fun. I think it's the same cruel streak that causes you and yours to attack young umpires like Canadaump who, for God Knows What reason  see no reason to homage the Old Guard here. Yeah, he's got a split in his pants, no hat and prolly no mechanics. He called a pitiful game. People laughed at him like you are dong now. The kids played. |

.......I think you completely missed the joke. Relax chief... |

Interested Ump: If you rotted out a pair of PU pants, then you definitely were not taking good care of your pants and were wearing a pair that should have been replaced a long time before they split on you. Sorry, but you lose on this one. MTD, Sr. |

I know the feeling. I picked up 15 classes last year with straight A's. I couldn't help but think of my first time going through college and ponder, "If only I knew then what I know now." |

What did I lose? |

If your plate pants were rotting out because they were salty and sweaty that means you weren't washing your plate pants on a regular basis, meaning you were not maintaining your equipment properly. That means if you were umpiring with me and were wearing a pair of salty, sweaty, rotted out pair of plate pants I would make sure that I would be standing up wind from you at all times. There no excuse for not keeping your gear in good repair. Sorry you still don't have a winner. MTD, Sr. |
Steve, been there done that!! I earned an MBA while working full time, it's not easy. Now my degree was'nt a high folluttin technical degree like your's so you should be double proud! Good Job!

Wouldn't a 4.0 be Summa Cum Laude? or did you have other classees there and had to boost your GPA? congrats on honors

Johnny, I got 16 A's and 2 A-'s. My GPA is 3.960. A's are A's, but I was disappointed with my A-'s. All my classes were 4 unit classes, 72 units total. I would have loved summa but will settle for magna.
MrUmpire, classes at computer technology schools are normally accelerated and so 15 classes for Garth sounds right if he went for a whole year at night. |

Let's return to reality, shall we? The reality is that amateur baseball is called by a very large number of umpires who don't meet your exacting criteria for pants excellence. Or shirt excellence. Or jock strap excellence for as best as I can tell. These DeNucci imperfects allow our children to play baseball. Without them, how many thousands of games, and kids, would never be played or play? My children included. Go right ahead, make fun of my lack of money and my split pants if it pleases you. Make fun of those umpires less fortunate who aren't DeNucci-labeled and aren't worthy of a look down your turned up nose. It's the Old Guard standard. A self-righteous ball of hypocrisy as if you were Kings and Princes of an elite, executive society. We are officials, in service to the game and its participants, nothing more, nothing less no matter how you want to overvalue your $15 per hour status. |

Interested Ump: On Mar. 11, 2008 at 01:50amEST you stated and I quote: "Yes, Steven, it has. I rottted out a pair of PU pants from salty sweat, slowly let loose the threading. Standing upright, there was nothing to report. Squatting was another matter." You admitted to wearing a pair of pants that rotted out from salt and sweat. That can only mean one thing: You do not bother to wash your umpiring pants. One does not have to spend a fortune to look professional. It does not take a lot of money to properlay maintain your officiating equipment. Wash your pants regularily and they will not rot out from salt and sweat. And if you want to get back to reality, your tirade is absolute nonsense. MTD, Sr. |
Guys,
Let's bring a little levity to this discussion. Yeah, the picture is funny, maybe tacky to some, but let's not pass judgment on the guy. Maybe his pants split that day. So what. Congrats to SanDiegoSteve on his accomplishments. I happen to have a BS in Chemical Engineering, an MBA and a Masters in Project Management and I make good money. So what. The only things that are important to me - I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back that aren't setting any fashion trends, food on my table, a wife and son whom I love dearly and who love me. I coach my son's team, I umpire various levels of baseball because I enjoy it, and I'm treasurer for the local baseball association, also because I enjoy it. Overall, I'd say I'm pretty lucky, considering I could be six feet under like the best man at my wedding, a lifelong friend of 42 years, who dropped dead of a massive heart attack three months ago at the ripe old age of 51. Your perspective has a tendency to change. So here I sit reading the unnecessary mud slinging in this thread and wonder - what purpose does it serve to be so judgmental? Is this vanity run wild, or just a need for some to make fun at the expense of others? I'm certainly far from perfect and have plenty of flaws as my wife likes to point out once in a while. Maybe we all need to take stock of ourselves to realize there's more out of life than trying to take advantage of someone's misfortune, whatever that is. |
Big Guy, thanks for the congratulations.
I do believe the purpose of this thread was to provide levity. All the excess mud slinging is just a bi-product of the original frivolity. This guy's picture is on the internet, so it's pretty much fair game for Tyler to make fun of him. I've had a pair of pants rip in the a$$ end for me in the early days of umpiring, long before readily available specialized plate pants were in vogue (I had gray longjohns underneath). But I've never worn a mask without a hat or umpired without shin guards, which was my point that even without the ripped trousers, there were plenty of other things to critique with this guy. |

No, I meant classes. I took a "block" program for three quarters. Each quarter the block was credited as five different classes. |
I had a pair do exactly that in a LL Major Championship game. I had only had the pants for one season. Just as this guy did, I just kept umping. Also blew a zipper out while rushing to get to a base assignment after being stuck in traffic. Shtuff happens. I learned to carry 2 pair of each in the car now to ALL games. We can poke fun at the guy but I'd rather buy him a beer for being out there and not quitting when alot of people would.
