Ball lodged in glove

NF Batter hits a screaming one-hopper right back to the pitcher. The ball becomes lodged between the fingers of his glove. Instead of trying to work it out, he just tosses the glove to the first baseman.
I read somewhere that in HS play, the batter and all runners advance two bases because of the lodged ball.

If this is true, what about if the ball hit is a line drive? Is the batter out?

What about the same two situations in OBR?

TIA

Yes, the batter is out.

The play is legal under OBR.

In OBR or NCAA, it is legal to throw the glove and lodged ball to get the out at the base.

In FED, once the umpires determines that the ball is in fact lodged (and the umpire is the one that determines this), the ball is dead and there is a 2 base award from TOP (I believe that this was a clarification for 2007).

Batter is out is out in all codes. In OBR, the runners are at risk the same as a normally caught ball. In FED, the ball is dead and the runners are awarded 2 bases from TOP.

Jenkins cleaned house on his afternoon shift as he always does. You'd think a bit of discussion might be good for an umpiring forum.

Discussion about this thread? How much value do TWP's really have for you?

Not that I recall -- and I usually can see the posts that I've deleted (even after they've been deleted). Not this time.

I agree -- discussion about plays / rule / mechanics is good.

The sniping between the Hatfields and the McCoys is not so good.
