What is the batter to do?

On a wild pitch my batter stepped out of the box and got in front of the plate. When the other team's pitcher was trying to cover home, he ran into my batter and fell to the ground causing a second run to score. Why would they call interference on my batter for this?

Harmbu:

Think about it for one minute. R3 and R2 are on base and F1 throws a wild pitch. R3 runs for home plate and R2 runs for third base, while F2 runs to field the wild pitch.

QUESTION #1: If R3 is running toward home plate because of F1's wild pitch, which fielder is to cover home plate while F2 is recoving the wild pitch?

ANSWER #1: F1.

QUESTION #2: If F1 is standing the pitching mound in front of the pitcher's plate, what is the shortest distance between the pitcher's plate and home plate?

ANSWER #2: A straight line between the pitcher's plate and home plate.

QUESTION #3: Why do you think your Batter was called for interference?

ANSWER #3: You can place your answer here Harmbu.

The OP sounds like the wild pitch was towards the batter, hence ending up in front of the plate, possibly to get out of the ball's way...I believe the interference was a correct call, mainly due to the fact that the batter had time to get out of the pitchers way, coming all the way from the mound, but chose not to.....Good call by the umpire

Oops

Oops, I told this one wrong in the original post. What actually happened is my pitcher threw the wild pitch and the batter moved into his way and knocked him down. The umpire did not call interference because, "the batter can go anywhere he wants." I guess they didn't get this one right.

Of course he knew whose team was which. The purpose of the OP was to bait all of the harmbu bashers out there -- you know who you are, always saying harmbu's wrong, no matter what he posts. Cut it out now and play nice!

Oh yeah, and if the batter interferes with F1 covering the plate I've got an out for interference -- the batter failed to get out of the way when he had the opportunity. The umpire was incorrect to state that the batter can go wherever he likes. Remember: with less than 2 out, R3 is out on this play (and R2 returns); with 2 outs, batter is out (7.09d).

The last time I heard a story change that much, my oldest son was three and was standing next to a broken lamp.

The umpire did not call interference because, "the batter can go anywhere he wants."
