Darling gives the foul tip signal even though the ball clearly hits the ground. Whats going on here?

mick Tue Aug 28, 2007 04:08pm

Clearly ? I dunno, and I wasn't blocked by the catcher.

Not clearly to me.

But more confusing...at what point was McLaren tossed?

Striker991 Tue Aug 28, 2007 04:29pm

So....

Why didn't he go for help when asked? Sure, he may have been blocked by the catcher, but there was no reason for him not to check with U3.

Good question on when was he tossed, because I didn't get that either. The announcers seemed to think it was while he was still in the dugout and continued jawing about the call.

He didn't go cuz he didn't want help. He was sure of what he *did*.

I'll postulate that McLaren was tossed when he went to U3.

Well,

I just got an e-mail that reported:

"Meals dumped McLaren because McLaren yelled: 'Why don't you have enough guts to go in and tell him he's WRONG!'"

Regards

I'm not so sure about how clear it was that the ball hit the dirt.

I'm not a lip reader but I think he said a lot more than just what you relayed here Tim. At least he was while jack jawing in Meals face.

It looked pretty clear to me after seeing the replay several times. The ball hit the ground. That's a pretty tough call for any base umpire to make from 110+ feet away. I would have to back up whatever the plate man had.

I thought McLaren looked like a bloomin' idiot arguing with Meals. I would eject anyone who got their stanky breath that close to my nose.:)

Good one !

I was kinda putting myself in the umps shoes when I said it wasn't clear to me.
And I'm with you, I'll go with a "What he said." :)

Never saw the toss, though. It must have been just verbal.

I believe I saw a "head wag" from Meals and I'm positive that I read his lips saying "get out" - and that was before McLaren even got to Meals! From that point on, it was just a show.

Anyone that doesn't recognize this as an auto-ejection needs to go back and sit through that day in school again.

No argument with the ejection. Just thought with what McLaren said and how he said it there'd be a big finger toss.

Oh, sure. I've only seen the "aftermath."

Did the ball actually hit the ground? It looked like it changed directions, but it can do that in the webbing of the glove if the glove's turned upside down and is on the ground.
