Mask

Anyone see the Boston/Tampa Bay game 8/13/2007?
HPU had a Steel [looking] traditional style mask with tan leather or suede pads.

Anyone identify this mask?

Looking for a new one and this one looked nice and comfortable.

Thanks...

Could they be deerskin pads, a light colored tanned leather ?
I imagine a lot of mask manufacturers offer them as anoption.

This is close to what he was wearing last night. They are Doe-skin pads. These pictures are from Gerry Davis Sports website.

Thanks guys. Interested in the wire frame actually.
I have suede pads on mine but I like the Stainless Steel look of the wire. Couldn't tell if it was bare or treated steel or just painted grey.

+POS is marketing a silver frame. Nike has a catchers mask that several MLB players are using, but I haven't seen it for sale. I saw one MLB umpire using the Nike mask, but it had the white "swoosh" marked out with a sharpie. I'm sure it had something to do with Wilsons sponsorship of the umpires.

Thanks Kyle, I saw that +POS mask. Looks sharp but it's made of Aluminum alloy. Very lightweight. Anyone use this mask?

I use one from AllStar that isn't much different than the +POS you are asking about.

Works well - and I love the weight

There is an earlier thread somewhere on this forum in which it is mentioned that at PBUC an "alert" was put out on the extreme lightweight masks and the masks with the flatter front profile. Both have been connected to injuries that would have been avoided with other masks.

My Plus POS "Zero Gravity" was severely damaged by a foul in the early part of the year. It turned out my replacement, the new Wilson with the flat profile was also mentioned as hazardous by the MiLB umpires.

I've gone back to my WestVest for the remainder of the season and will research masks carefully this winter.

Has anyone found where the Nike mask can be purchased yet?

Doesn't it seem reasonable that flatter masks will absorb, as opposed to deflect the baseball more than rounded mask? I mean it's just common sense. I guess the best shape would be like an hatchet, but it would be hell on baseballs.

I gave up my flat +POS after I got a concussion in a ten year old game. I should have thought the shape out before I bought it. My bad.
