Strange "Ground Rule" Double

Anyone ever see one like this?

Yanks / KC

Ball hits pitcher's foot and deflects over the 1B dugout for a double.

And the announcers knew it.

Yes, have you not?

No I haven't - of course I'm only 62 and 364 days.

Neither had Murcer and (I don't remember who else) who were announcing the game.

As much as a stickler as you usually are, I'm surprised that you refer to this a "ground rule" double.

Or are the quotation marks around "ground rule" to let us know you don't really mean a "true" GRD?

Mercer and Ken Singleton were calling the game. Was wierd indeed. I had flashbacks to that youtube video of the OBS/INT after the ball hit the pitchers foot from a couple months ago.

See, there's the problem. You can't remember. ;) . It's common around here, "I have umped 5,08023,405,804 games and I can't remember ever being hit with a live ball in the field."

It would be a rule book double in the words of Bob Prince.
