Shag, RIP

I'm surprised no one has posted yet.

Shag was one of my favorites at Candlestick. Some "credit" him with being the first to place his hand on the catcher when getting in position. His son Jerry went through the MiLB system in just six years before signing his MLB contract at age 29 compared to the 10-13 year average.

Shag's love of the game was evident, every day, every game. He was 91. Oh, and he ejected Earl Weaver in game 4 of the 69 Series making him the first manager ejected during a World Series in 34 years.

Rest in peace, Shag.

Thanks for the news flash, Garth. I did not hear about this until I read your post. I'm sure that he is working with Durwood and John's crew now.

RIP

I was kind of surpised nobody had mentioned this too. I met Shag after he retired, in Havertown, Pa. He and his dogs were regular attendees at a local men's fastpitch softball league. He even offered to fill in once, so I the pleasure of working a game with him in '79. He did love the game and would talk for quite a while with just about anyone.

I hadn't heard, thanks Garth. He was sure an umpire's umpire. Rest in peace, Shag Crawford.
