A Good Teeser?

I found the following dissertation interesting and decided to post it here.
I thought some of you would enjoy reading some real scientific research.
Hopefully the thread will survive for most of you to enjoy.
How much do you know about a curve ball?

Well, this is all good scientific information but what about the Rising Fast Ball? :D :D

 I watched a National geographic TV show on throwing the Baseball over the weekend and it talked about the "rising fastball" and all of the research done on the hitting and how the ball and the bat inter react.

No such thing as a rising fastball, as you know. Any perception of a fastball that rises is an optical illusion. I operate pitch-tracking computers that draw trails on every pitch and I ain't seen one yet that didn't have an arc to it.

I hope it mentioned how the rising fastball is an optical illusion. Otherwise, it's bad science.

Jim --

Before your (re-)appearance on this board, a certain SAump posted several threads over several weeks supporting the position that a fastball can rise. It has now become a joke. (Notice that I didn't say he was a joke. Nor, to be sure, did I say he wasn't.)

Ah, okay -- thanks for the explanation. He should sit in my seat a few times and he'd change his tune quickly. All pitches have an obvious arc. In fact, even the straightest of fastballs to the naked eye have a very distinct arc to them indeed.

They talked about how is was an optical illusion. How it was traveling so fast it appeared to rise.
