Im not one to criticize, but there's no way the first clip doesn't show a strike.

I don't think any Pitch Track or Questec or anything else is needed to see that that pitch was strike 3.

There were other pitches which drew ire from both teams, not just the Padres. This one though led to runs scored that otherwise would not have, at a time when SD was up 4 to 3. Of course, they then pulled Maddux, put in some scrub, and ended up getting hammered and losing.

Maddux must have said he was mad at himself because he has too much class to say what he really thought of that awful call.

Cuzzi had been inconsistent with that pitch all night. He often called it a strike to left-handed hitters when he was closer to the inside corner, and often called it a ball to right-handed hitters when further away from the outside corner.

As I said before, I think that inconsistency was a result of his positioning which was too low. When it was an outside corner pitch, he likely couldn't see it all the way into the mitt because the catcher's head was in his way. He was unable to perceive the late movement that Maddux always puts on that pitch, and so he mostly called it a ball. But when it was an inside corner pitch, he could see the late movement just fine and called it a strike.

I'll take your word on that.

As I said, I only saw a few pitches in the highlights, but what I saw was good.
