Should I have tossed him?
In a high school age summer game I'm doing the plate. The catcher asks me if the batter is too far back in the box(no batters box) I use the batter's bat, to measure and draw a back line with my foot.
The 1b coach yells down from the coaches box "why dont you draw a line on his chest". I stare at him 5-10 sec (mask on) I later thought I should have sent him home. Any other thoughts??? |
I think the 1B coach is a buffoon - and not very funny. Although that's probably not the "thoughts" you were looking for.

I agree to probably not toss him for this...I would phrase your warning a little differently...something to the effect of "you will not argue balls and strikes anymore" and if you're going to issue the warning, be prepared to eject the next time it's done...otherwise, if you're not prepared to eject...then it's best to ignore the 1B rat.

I also wouldn't draw a line for the back of the box, I would just answer the question with a NO. |

So, if someone tries to cheat by standing out of the box, what next Mr. Umpire shooter?

As far as the asst.'s statement, it depends on how many games I've done on this day. If it's my 2nd or 3rd game of the day, if it's really hot, he's done. If not, he's on ignore. |

I think I'd have ignored him... Then again, I don't think this would ever happen to me, as there's NO WAY I would be drawing a line during the game. My answer to the catcher would simply have been, "No."

Why do you care how far back the batter is standing? Tell the catcher, NO.
I assume that the 1b rat was grousing about your zone? If this was his first remark then I would not respond to it, but I would let him know I heard it by staring a hole through his hollow head. A second remark would earn him a one way ticket to the parking lot. |
You know what one of my favorite things about non-Fed games is? Depending on the league I can direct said mouthy coach beyond the parking lot!
