With 0 out and R3, U3 goes out on a fly ball to left field. R3, thinking the ball will drop, heads home. If the ball is caught, who has the ensuing play at 3B assuming that R3 attempts to retouch? It seems like quite a trip for U1 to come all the way across the diamond from position A; especially since he is responsible for the BR until the ball is caught. We're nowhere near 3-man season in my area, but I was reviewing the manuals and this situation seemed like trouble.

U1 is busting into the grass, glances at B/R touch first then moves to a working area and goes chest to ball and let's the ball dictate where he goes from there.

UIC has the tag-up at 3rd, U1 has any play at third.

Agreed. When one umpire goes out, revert to two man. Who has the play at third in two man? U1.
