I highly recommend them.

Using the shorts. Daughter says they are my "bubble wrap". Wife says anything to keep the bruising down is good. Son wears them too, catching and umpiring.
The "rise" is a little much for me. I either have to "Fred Mertz" them and pull the WB up, or I have to roll the WB down. I have two current bruises which were just "off" the padding. I have one half bruise at the edge, so I would say the padding works. Son takes a little ribbing when wearing them to catch, but he figures a little ribbing is better than a big bruise. He says it does give him more confidence to drop and block. I see him more willing to practice blocking more often and longer. He has been hit a couple of times, no bruising. The surprising benefit is less problems when HBP. |
Your still know you've been hit, they do help keep the size of the bruise down however.

Size matters? :-)

Bought two pair last season.
They have saved me countless times. I won't set foot behind the plate without them. They seem to run one size larger than the tights without the pads, so try them on if you can before you buy. I have two pair that are too big, even though they are the same size (large) as my non-padded McDavid tights. |
Mine are way too big too. I wish I would have known that before I ordered them. I roll up the pant legs about a foot, and they fit ok. Hot little suckers though. They don't breath all that well, but the protection is worth the discomfort.
