Mask

I was watching the Braves/Nationals game last night and Tim Timmons was wearing what looked to be a gray Nike Mask. Is this really what it was? Where did he get such a mask, because I don't see many masks out there other than Wilson, Honig, Diamond and maybe a couple of others.

I am not looking to buy this, I just thought I would ask.

Thanks.

While we are on the subject, I was watching the Giants/Padres last night, and I really liked Laz Diaz' mask. It too was gray in color, with tan pads. If anyone knows what brand it is, I would like to know.

These are Nike Masks. Tim Tachida also wears one. You can see an upclose picture of it here....

I think these guys need to invest in a travel iron.:p

SanDiegoSteve Wed Apr 11, 2007 01:57pm

It looks like they got Verducci's uniform right out of the shipping package. It has never seen a press.

So, how about Laz Diaz' mask? Anyone out there know the model?

LMan Wed Apr 11, 2007 02:43pm

..and no one told Tchida to press down his shirt collar, either.

pingswinger Wed Apr 11, 2007 02:53pm

Does anyone know where they sell these masks? Do you ever notice how much Tim Timmons twitches and moves and adjusts in between pitches? He looks good back there but there is always something in between pitches. Just an observation.

Shef24 Wed Apr 11, 2007 03:35pm

I did notice that Timmons does do a lot of twitching and moving around. He seemed to be always lifting the bottom of his mask to spit also.

He did look good back there and you could even hear his ball/strike calls.

Is there any doubt in anyones mind that these guys are getting paid to wear this mask? It may, or may not be any good, but just understand that Nike is getting their logo on TV with this mask. That translates into dollars in the ball bag.

What'd you think of Klesko tackling Giles? I'm kind of wondering why interference wasn't called but I'm not an MLB ump...

What brand of plate shoe is Tschida wearing?

Tim.

Man Tim, you are behind on the times. We talked about these Reebok plates shoes a while back. I think it was the thread on that SI article. They look way to logo-ed up.

Looks like hes sporting a Honig's K1 as well. I always remembered Tschida as one of the few MLB guys sporting a Carlucci along with Barrett.

I must have missed that play. I watch the replay of the games when I get home from school, so I miss parts here and there sometimes.

So, what happened? Which Giles?

Molina hit a double play ball to short, he threw to Marcus Giles at 2nd. Klesko slid through the bag, made contact with Giles' legs and then grabbed him and pulled him down.

You can see a clip of it here

http://mlb.mlb.com/mediacenter/index.jsp#20070410

Scroll down to the SF @ SD game and click the "400K" under the column "Video Top Plays". In the window that opens up, click on the link that says "Molina's Two RBIs". The play in question happens at about the 15 second mark.

I'm guessing the ump ruled that the play was already broken up after Klesko slid through the bag but it still looked "funny" to me, but then I'm not making the big bucks!

First, I saw this play. Good clean take out on Marcus. At least he helped him up, and Marcus did not seem too upset or anything. Can't stand on the tracks when the train's coming through!

Second, I don't see how you get "double play ball to short," as Khalil Greene had to full-on lay out deep in the hole to field the ball, and barely got a sliding Ryan Klesko at 2nd base for the one out. A double play ball is a one or two hopper that is easily turned well before the pivot man gets crashed.

Klesko was really just making sure that Gillie didn't turn the DP, even though he wouldn't have gotten the BR anyway.

No argument from me here, and I thougt that was a classy move on Klesko's part to help him up.

You know, you're right. For some reason I was remembering the play as being more routine than that. Sorry. :o

Well that's what I wasn't sure about. I figured that Giles didn't have a play after Klesko slid into the bag but I was curious about your take on it since you had seen the game. Thank you. :)

Paul L Thu Apr 12, 2007 06:58pm

Remember that Molina was the BR, who is slow even for a catcher. F4 mighta had a DP chance despite the ground ball to the deep hole.

That works for me. I'm just here to learn.

On a side note, this is the first time I've seen those short sleeve smock like jackets. Them things are ugly. Of course, I did say that about the light blue shirts with delta blue collars once upon a time and they've rubbed off on me. Not to mention that, it is THE show afterall.
