Does Anyone Else Still Have To Wait To Umpire?
Wow, it's still around a month until what I am assuming will be my first game. I hate the 8 month offseason in Canada. Anybody else know what I mean?
|
No, not really. I work my 23rd game of the HS regular season tomorrow and have 3 more this weekend. You need to move south.
|
Also Canadian
I know how you feel. It will be about the end of May before my first.:(
|
Wow, where abouts do you live to have baseball season start that late? I hope that baseball ends at least by the beginning of October so that you can get a 4 month umpiring season in. That's all I do; beginning of May till beginning of September.
|
Nova Scotia. Baseball starts mid May and ends mid to late Sept.
|
I have worked 8 games/dates already.
Peace |
canadaump06,
I've worked three games here (Chicago area) so far this year. First two games were last week, and it was in the 70s for both of them. Worked one this week, it was in the mid-60s - pretty nice for this time of year around here all the way around. I'm scheduled to work a DH starting at 10:00AM this Saturday. Forecast is a high of 36, low of 28, "flurries" and a North wind thrown in for good measure. I'm feeling cold already. JM |

The next day, I worked a game in near 70 degree weather. Today, the high was in the 40's. Friday it's supposed to be 70. If you don't like springtime weather in Spokane you just wait a minute...it'll change. |
In Canada I start May 1st which is the first day we are allowed on the diamonds. I have done some travelling and have already done some games as it is.
|
23 games already between college and high school. That will be 28 by the end of the weekend.
|
48 so far, had a few rain out in early feb, but it has been dry since except for one day. Have 3 this weekend Thur-Sat, off for easter sunday. Gotta love California weather.
|
1st Scrimage this saturday. Games start next saturday.
|
It Is Snowing!!!!
IT'S SNOWING! My lawn is white! Just Tuesday, I was wearing a t-shirt! UUUURRRRGGGGHHHHH!
Our high school season started 3/28, but our Little League season doesn't start until 4/28. Chompin' at the bit! I'm hoping for some scrimmage games. :( |
lost two games last Sunday probably going to lose more if this stellar weather continues here in Minnesota...very, very frustrating.
|
WOW!! Maybe you guys should move a little farther south. We have been going since late January. Of course we go all year round here. Gotta love South Florida.

Wow, what a concept! People that do other sports. Please tell me it's not true! What makes you think that I don't do other sports as well? Let's see, I guess we don't play football and basketball here. I was just stating that the "baseball season" starts earlier here.

My first game is a week away but the 2 inches of snow we just got may be pushing that back a little. Good thing I worked a scrimmage a couple of weeks ago during a warm front.
|
I'm on a roll...a bad roll.
First ten days of the high school season here and I have had all five of my games cancelled! Even with record highs and warmer than usual days, the luck of the draw has been that the days I have been scheduled just happened to be the the rainy days in between the record setters. Yesterday's game was snowed out. The day before it was 80 degrees! |
To all you people in the warm climes: May a horny bull become your sister's closest friend. :p

The coldest temperatures in April in Chicagoland in over 60 years--so much for that "Global Warming" bullschit--have settled in a few days ago, and they're not expected to let up anytime soon. In fact, this cold pattern is expected to last through at least the middle of the month!
We're not talking about weather that's just chilly. This is downright cold! Highs in the mid-30s, winds whipping out of the north, and wind chills in the teens or single digits. Wednesday of this week and tomorrow snow showers have been present, and next week, there's a big storm heading into the Midwest, with measurable snow expected in many areas. College games all over the place are getting banged because of the dangerous cold. When D-1 bangs games, you know it's cold! And this is April??? |
Hey all,
My first game was on March 10. Total of 17 games between LL and BR. LomUmp:cool: |
!9 so far, high school and college. 14 plates. I like plates.

Today's PREDICTED high temperature: 32*!
It's April frickin' 7th for Chrissake! Next Wednesday's, the 11th's, predicted high: 35* with SNOW! |

BTW, why no mention of the irrefutable fact that Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are also experiencing "Global Warming"? It is easy to see what the common denominator is among Earth and the aforementioned 4 planets, and the only thing that can affect climate on a planetary scale: the sun. Now, back to this freezing, "Global Warming is the cause of the cold" weather we're having here. |

The debate is over the cause. Quote:
Unfortunately, what is "easy to see" does not always turn out to be a factor. That truth is tormenting both sides of the issue. Regarding Chicago weather. Chicago's April temperature extremes: Based on official records dating from 1871, Chicago's temperatures in April have ranged from 91 (April 22, 1980, and April 30, 1942) to 7 (April 7, 1982). Chicago has experienced below freezing weather as late as May 15. |

Hey all,
Global Warming HAS NOT been proven to exist! I remember hearing about a study done a few years ago that in the cities, i.e., places that have grown in population and have tons of concrete, asphalt, and the like, over the past @100 years temperatures have risen. BUT, in the areas that are still in the same condition as the were @100 years ago, such as area throughout the midwest, TX, OK, mountainous regions, etc. the temperature has actually DECLINED! I remember being told this by an instructor at the Weather Forecasting School for the US (as well as other countries) military. I was in the weather career field for 10 years in the USAF. It was also explained how the "hole in the ozone" over Antarctica probably does not exist, and how CFC's from the northern hemisphere DO NOT play a role the the "deterioration" of the ozone. Al Gore was stupid enough to say so himself while giving a speech. @15 years ago, a volcano in the southern hemisphere erupted. AL Gore said that the ash and sulfer and all the other nice things that come from a volcano could not affect the ozone because of the upper level winds would prevent all those things from reaching that high into the atmosphere. So, we are supposed to believe that exhaust from a car, cfc from a spray can, cow farts(methane), or other dastardly chemical is supposed to come from your town in North America somewhere and cross the equator, where the trade winds do not allow much mixing of air masses between the northern and southern hemispheres, then travel to the South Pole area, and rise up the deplete the ozone when a volcano that is in the southern hemisphere BLASTS it's innards STRAIGHT UP in the sky, won't have it's contents reach the ozone because of upper level winds? This is still on topic because isn't it the ozone "hole" that is causing global warming? And isn't it funny how a majority, I don't remember the % off hand, of the earth's population live in the northern hemisphere and the ozone hole is in the southern? TRUTH BE TOLD.... Scientists are not the people that are pushing the global warming issue. It is politicians that have something to gain in the forms of donations, kickbacks, pork, restrictive legislation, or other things that are going out and pushing their own agenda. Predominantly Democrats, some Republicans, but it is on BOTH side of the isle. rant off LomUmp:cool: |
