Sorry for asking questions the book spells out but, here are another 2 from little league.

1) R2, pitcher misses throw back from catcher and R@ jumps off the bag, picks up the ball and throws it back to the pitcher. Whats the ruling.

2) Pitch approaches WAY outside, surprisingly before the ball even makes it to home plate, batter wildly jumps out of the box as if the pitch is going to hit him!??(I dont know what he is looking at!!) Whats this call. Thanks, Tony

You said for LL - meaning 12U

1) What I'd recommend: Was there a runner on third and the defense was deprived of an attempt to retire him? If not, say "thank you" and let the coach handle it. He only hurt his own team. If yes, call the poor guy out and return the runner to third.

2) It's a nothing. Why do you percieve a problem?

Yes. actually this is 10U. Thanks for the answer for 1.

My perceived problem with 2 is I was unsure if there was a rule about leaving the batters box without "permission". I look at it the same as if he stepped out in the middle of a pitch to take a practice swing...or during the windup. isnt that illegal? Doesnt the batter have to stay in the box (unless of course he's legitimately avoiding being hit by a pitch)? -Tony

The 10U kid is afraid and he thinks he's getting out of the way of the ball. If a batter leaves the box the penalty is that the umpire calls "ball" or "strike" as appropriate - See 6.02(b).
