Y'all Disappoint me!

Y'all are disappointing me this year. Usually by this time we have at least one thread (often more) going on EACH internet umpire's forum that contains a bunch of out-of-the-loop internet umpires stating that "I know from a person 'in the game' that these are definitely the umpire crews for this year's post-season," (or words to that affect) or offering some "predictions" for post-season assignments.

Have we really matured this much as a group (of internet posters), that we are not going to participate in this futile exercise this year...but rather wait for the actual announcement? If so, then we've made great strides.

o.k. with that said, I now offer the following announcement: "Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls: Lawump is now getting his pompous @ss off of his high horse. Thank You."

By the way my predictions this year are: (just joking).

For the World Series:

PU...John McSherry
U1...Bill Klem
U2...Jocko Conlan
U3...Durwood Merrill
RF...Augie Donatelli
LF...Nestor Chylak

That would be just.......heaven.

I find the idea of following MLB umpires (memorizing their numbers, knowing their stances, etc) somewhere between creepy stalker, and groupie. Players, yes. Arbiters, um, no.

Maybe the group, as a whole, is growing up a bit.

That being said, Garth, how is Luciano NOT U1, with guns ablazin'?

As much as I disdain the true "jock sniffer" who seems to know what so-and-so MLB umpire had for breakfast on any given day, I have kept up with the identification by number (it is a handy little system), what kind of stance they use, what kind of strike zone they have, etc. I also love to critique their work, and pick and choose the ones I think are very good, and the ones I think aren't as good. That does not make anyone who does this "creepy" or a "groupie." Why the big fuss over the players? I find the umpires to be much more fascinating. A rat is just a rat to me. Sorry. I would much rather wear an umps number on my sleeve, than sport a rat's number on my back.

If an up and coming actor followed current successful actor's, to study their skills and learn from them, they would be considered diligent and aspiring !

If a family man is taking time away from his family, to track sports players, umpires, actors, etc., that's creepy.

If you've got the time to do it, and enjoy it, go for it !

Me, I'm too busy doing it, to obsess about it. And yes, I wish I had the time to track & study better umpires than myself.

Hell, I wish I had more time to sleep ! :)

Facsinating, eh?

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I choose umpires who, 1) are deceased, 2) were excellent umpires, and 3) had the respect of their peers.

SanDiegoSteve Sat Sep 23, 2006 10:28am

Or, perhaps you chose them.

I think this is an 'Andy Konyar' criterion... :D

No, I said what I meant, present tense, I choose them. And I will continue to choose them for the League series as well as the WS. Thanks for playing, though.

confused about that last part. Unless I'm missing the sarcasm.

And Steve, I completely agree with your first post; it's pretty much how I feel as well.

Another personal attack on me. I thought we were past that. I was wrong in thinking this.

For your information, August J. Donatelli was one of the finest umpires ever to grace a baseball field. I was nicknamed after him, and chose his name as a moniker on the other forum as a way of showing honor to that fine gentleman. Certain people took exception with that, which is okay, yet very much none of their damn business what name I use on the internet. I have been known in my HS association as Augie for about 20 years now, like it or not, that's what they call me.

You should one day be anywhere near the umpire Augie Donatelli was. Until that day arrives, keep asinine comments such as that one to yourself.

Matt, you are missing the sarcasm apparently. Hunter Wendelstedt in the WS? Not quite yet.:)

Thought so. Hoping so. I think I'm one of the crew who thinks he got his job based partially on name.
