tag up after foul ball
i know 5.09 e states that runners must retouch after a foul ball - but this is sometimes ignored in game situations.
my dad recently told me that he recalls that years ago -60 or 70 years ago. runners were not required to retouch after a foul ball. until an ingenious R2 had the bright idea of refusing to retouch after a foul and simply telling the ump that he was taking a large lead from 2nd - a foot away from 3rd and as soon as the ball was put in play he simply stepped on 3rd. dad tells me that they made an emergency rule change during the season to put an end to this loophole. is there any truth to this nonsense?? |

That's an excellent policy that I've suggested to my sons in the past. |
