I would start with knowing the rules. Makes taking a test a breeze.

Don't try to understand or memorize the NCAA DH rule! Even the Supreme Court Justices don't understand it!
Study all the other rules because you may have done FED or OBR - NCAA has many differences. the BRD that Carl Childress publishes once a year is a big help with this. Good Luck on the test. |
My only advice is study, study, study! The NCAA test is known to be a bear. I know several umpires that took the test 2, 3, even 4 times before passing.
Just reading and re-reading the book is not enough IMO. You need to actually study. A link to past tests is http://www.umpire.org/ncaa/ . Pay particular attention to POE and changes. When taking the test, remember that leaving out 1 possible selection, as well as having 1 too many selections, will result in a wrong answer on the whole question. Study hard, good luck. |
Yup, I agree with all so far. The test is a bear, and the DH rule is impossible to understand from memory.

All NCAA umpiring material has been moved to the above link. You do not have to pay to use the site. No new material has been posted to the NCAA website in almost a year. |
