NFL Officials' New Uniforms

There's a thread on this in the football section of this forum, so I don't really want to start a big new one here, but I was curious to see what you guys think of them. Having been a former football official years ago, I still hold an interest in my NFL "brothers," so I was a bit shocked when I saw the new unies. Personally, I think they're awful, especially the black pants for the colder weather.

Check out this thread for some pics, and scroll down to post #27:

Football refs once wore ties. Later, they all wore white hats, not just the "white hat".

Baseball umpires wore top hats and ties. They used the raft behind home plate.

Lounge Lizards and retirees in Florida used to wear polyester "leisure suits".

According to a local NFL official, most of the refs like the change. The fans will adapt, the game will go on, the sun will come up tomorrow.

And that's about how many fans the Padres had in attendance back in 1969, too!

Yes, when the American League umpires wore the red blazers, they looked like movie ushers. Pretty ugly.

Funny, because I would go to the movies and tell the usher he looked like an American League umpire. :p

I didn't remember the year, but back then the years all ran together. From 1969 to 1975, it was skimpy attendance. Randy Jones winning the Cy Young helped boost ticket sales after that.

Yeah, I remember those funky pajamas my beloved White Sox wore. Another Bill Veeck innovation. How could they smile in those things?
