Light Masks
Is the ZERO GRAVITY mask that you cannot get from +POS the lightest?
I see one at Gerry Davis that looks very light. My neck hurts, I need a new mask and I want the lightest one. A safe one, of course. |
The Wilson "New-View" mask sold by Gerry Davis is pretty light. I bought mine a couple of years ago when they first came out, slapped the Wilson "wraparound" doeskin pads on it, and haven't considered changing that combination since.

I found the wrap around pads to be quite large, uncomfortable, and kinda silly. I just didnt like it, and the mask fitting closer, I think after experiencing it, is not a big deal at all. Hell, even Joe West wears the old Dyna-Lite. |
i will never use a "new-view" mask. i hate the bars being closer, and its not even a new concept at all. i had to use one a ways back when i did LL with a balloon, shinguards and mask that was at the field in a lock box. it was a rawlings mask with close bars, and i thought someone smashed it at first, but it was totally normal...it just sucked.

How Light is it?
Hey all,
The lightest mask that I have held or worn is the Honig's K82(?) double bar mask w/leather pads. The next closest, and it's very close, is a composite mask from All-Star that our LL District UIC has. Both are lighter than ANY Wilson or +Pos mask that I have held. Just for clarification, we both use these masks in an adult league that we both umpire in, not just LL. LomUmp:cool: |
I still use the old +POS super lightweight mask from around 2002...that one, in my opinion is the lightest one available if you can find it...what were the reasons for getting rid of that one? Probably breaking in cold weather???

There's two good reasons. In addition, any mask other than a welders has better visibility. It was quite light though. |
