Did the umpire over react?
I saw this in a game tonight and I just wanted to see if they thought the umpire over reacted.
Bottom of the 7th, 2 outs and runners on first and second. A slow chopper is hit to the shortstop who comes into the infield grass to field the ball. The runner going to third starts screaming "Miss it, miss it" and distracts the shortstop who lookes up at the runner and bobbles the ball. All the runners are safe and the umpire tosses the runner going to third for unsportsman like conduct. In my opinion I would have just called the runner out for interference. Then the game would have been over. What would you have done? Thanks in advance for your comments, Adam |
We need to know what rule set the game was played under ?
FED, OBR, Little League, Babe Ruth, Dixie, Cal-Ripkin, etc. |
Verbal interference. Ring up the out, shake hands and say 'good night'.

It is a Babe Ruth tournament.

If your judgment says this was a deliberate attempt to confuse the fielder then you call the interference, ring the runner up, and go home.
INTERFERENCE (a)Offensive interference is an act by a member of the team at bat that interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses any fielder attempting to make a play. If the umpire declares the batter, batter-runner or a runner out for interference, all other runners shall return to the last base that was, in the judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the interference, unless otherwise provided by these rules.
