Feinting to 1st

While I am aware that under NFHS rule set, it is a balk to feint to 1st base from the pitchers rubber, I do not know what the OBR rule is.
Can you tell me, under OBR ( MLB ) is it a balk to feint to 1st:
a.) while on the rubber;
b.) while off the rubber ( jump spin or jab step, etc. )?

I know very little about these rule sets and I am starting to do a travel team ( 15-16 year olds ) that play under OBR ( MLB ) rule sets. I am trying to learn the differences between NFHS and OBR. I have to find some reference manuals that will show me the differences as well. Any help there will be appreciated.

Thanks.

officaltony,

Under all rule codes it is a balk to feint to 1B from the rubber.

Under all rule codes it it not a balk to feint to 1B after legally disengaging the rubber.

The jump spin and jab step moves are both considered moves from on the rubber, so if made to 1B the pitcher must throw or he will have balked.

I am also trying to learn the differences between OBR and FED. I've been doing so for almost four years. I feel like I'm starting to make some progress. The best references I have found are:

The Baseball Rules Differences (BRD) by Carl Childress (Only 314 pp. not counting index & appendices).

And The Rules of Professional Baseball, Rules Differences Edition by Chris Jaksa & Rick Roder (aka J/R - RDE).

Good luck.

Thanks,
I found a website with the OBR rules posted and found my answer ( thanks to pob14 for posting the link ).
I would like to get a copy of Childress's and the Roder books.
Best way to do that?

Thanks again.

officialtony,

For the BRD, you can get it right next door on another page of this website:

For the J/R, go to:

Be sure to mention that CoachJM sent you.

I'm sure we've all seen this: Runners on 1st and 3rd, right handed pitcher fakes a throw to third, turns around and throws to first.

My question is this: Am I correct from reading the above comments that a lefty pitcher cannot fake to first then throw to third?

Thanks

LeftyRef,

That is correct. For a LHP to do so, he would be rquired to disengage prior to the feint to 1B.

(Also, I assume your first "first" was really meant to be "third".)
