Bad day
What do you do personally after you've had a $hitty game?
|
While drinking a cold one I :
1) Determine what went wrong. 2) If I missapplied a rule, I look up the rule and try to learn from it. 3) If I kicked a call, I ask myself if I was in the wrong position, and I learn from it. If I just blew the call, from lack of focus or just a plain old "brain fart" I try to learn from it. 4) If I displayed poor game management, I was argumentative or lost my composure, I try to determine what triggered it and learn from it. You might notice a recurring theme, "learn from it". No one is perfect, we strive for it, but will never acheive it. Learn from it and move on. You will get better. Bob P. |
I try to figure out what parts were the worst, and determine how many of them I can blame them on my partners!:D

HOWEVER if you do have a partner who is God's gift to umpires you've just been blessed with a scape goat! :D |
I guess it would depend on what you consider a $h!tty game. I do not consider a close call or two as the definition of a $h!tty game.
After every game I review what went right and what went wrong. What could I have done personally to make the situation better? Were there things out of my hands I could not control? I might review a rule I was not sure about whether the game was good or not. I will review the mechanics or philosophies whether. The bottom line is whether a game is good or a game is bad you should have a similar approach to each game. Even when you have a good game you cannot just be satisfied and think you are the greatest umpire that ever lived. You are only as good as the last game you worked. Peace |
