Help - Plate Pullover Jacket question

I need to purchase a pullover jacket for those rainy days when I'm on the plate. Should I get one without elastic on the bottom? Or one that doesn't (so you can tuck it in).

I can't imagine tucking in a jacket into the pants, but is that what the plate ump is supposed to do? What about the base ump?

Thanks.

Tucking a windbreaker into your plate pants is actually to proper way to wear a pullover when working the dish. Looks really weird on the bases though.

So on the bases you don't tuck in?

Thanks Steve.

Well, hopefully it's not really excessively long. That looks bad too. If it hangs down past the middle of your butt, I'd probably tuck it in.

Turn on TBS right now and look at the new MLB field jackets. They have a real casual look to them.

Looks like they are tucked in, but kind of pulled out. A loose tuck I guess, to where you can't see the belt, but the coat kind of doubles back on itself.

I see a lot of guys tuck 'em in on bases and on plate. There is a model at Honigs without elastic at the bottom for plate use, so it can more easily be tucked in. Mine has a rib knit around the waste and I just make sure it is at or slightly below the belt, and don't tuck.

Also, it has to be a heck of a cold day for me to wear one on the dish. I have a long sleeve shirt that I wear on cold days, and with proper undergarments it serves me well. I had an opportunity to buy a plate coat last year for $100 but passed. I should have gotten it.

those are the ones we talked about in another thread a few weeks ago, just a sleeveless version. they've worn them before and the place i remember seeing the most, oddly enough, is san diego.

This is the first I have seen of them Brian, and I think they look horsesh*t. JMO.

i dont like the look at all either. the regular long sleeved version of that jacket looks alright though. i have a jacket from the same majestic line, except its a cubs jacket. its a nice and light spring jacket, and id imagine it would be nice to wear on a cool night that is between a shirt and regular pullover, such as tonight.

Just finished watching the Padres walk-off your Cubs, Brian. The field umpires were wearing the long-sleeved version of the jackets, which didn't look too bad, and they wore them completely tucked in, which looks much sharper than the "bloused" look the short-sleeved ones sported.

damn the padres and their walk-off HRs

It was just a walk-off single, but the effect was the same. I was in the yard when Garvey hit the walk-off in Game 4. I know you missed that one!

Buy the Plate style jacket, and always tuck it in. It actually works quite nicely, even on tight fitting pants.

The plate style, tucked in is the standard for our association, for both plate and bases.

And, with the plate style, you get a nice pocket to either put your line-up cards, or your sunglasses, if you have to take them off.
