Saved by my new PADDED Interawear

I purchased a couple pair of full length Mac-David Interawear tights, with the new Hex Cell padding.

Tuesday I took an untouched pitch on the inside of my right thigh. Instead of having my leg knocked out from under me (mostly from pain), all I felt was a good sting. The next day, I had a small bruise, but nothing compared to what I used to get. And for once, I didn't feel like picking up the ball and spiking it into the catcher's back.

If you decide to try them, they run 1+ size larger than the non-padded tights. I bought them one full size smaller than my non-padded version, and they are still a little big.

Now I just need some armor on my forearms, and I'm all set. Maybe we could start wearing those robot looking deep sea diving suits. They have heaters & Air Conditioning. :D

Geez, Nick, you are going to look like RoboCop back there pretty soon ;)

Ha !

Yeah, your right. Especially since I wear a helmet.

But the padded tights do not show at all. You can't tell someone is wearing them. I bet some of the MLB or MiLB guys have been wearing them for a while to test the product, and we never would even know it.

Clears that up

"And for once, I didn't feel like picking up the ball and spiking it into the catcher's back."

I always wondered why a catcher would need a HSM.

Does anybody else carry them besides Honig's? I went to the McDavid web sites and they do not have them there, only the shorts. Honig's should be promenently displaying these Hexpad compression tights, but they don't even have a picture available.

Well, I'd send you a picture of me wearing them, but that would be obscene !

They are quite expensive, $55 - $61 a pair.

The Officials Corner also sells them. (831) 625-2209

Cheaper Alternative to Hex Pad Tights-Football Thigh Pads

If you are financially challenged like me you can get a pair of football thigh pads (I coach HS football so they were free for me) and slide them into the regular tights or compression shorts you wear. I took two in the inner thigh yesterday due to sucky (is that a word?) catchers and didn't feel a thing. It was 80 degrees and no noticeable extra heat. I wear Honig's plate pants so no one even notices the thigh pads-or if they do, no one says anything like wuss or stuff like that. Both catchers thought I would be hurt or complaining and I didn't even make a sound. Nor did I tell them about the thigh pads. Just a suggestion. And for those of you who think Wuss/Puss or other derogatory comments, I don't care. I just got back into shape after a bad health episode and I don't want to derail my cardio workouts due to deep thigh bruising. My walks are the keys to my newfound physical and mental health.

Doug:

Just a thought. You really should consider using a dangling throat protector with that mask!:D

The thighs can be a real problem, especially if you have to do any running (say, on the bases the next night).

I was in a karate tournament once where I took a good shot from a great fighter on the inner thigh. It didn't hurt then, and even later I just noticed a little soreness.

The next day I was practicing softball with my team and I realized I couldn't run. I didn't play that week and barely was able to play the next -- and I was 20!

I have a lot of respect for you baseball guys that stand in there and take it, but I agree with another poster on another thread: make sure you protect yourself. If you are out due to injury, that's one less good man calling balls, strikes, and outs.
