The difference between these CP's?

I need to retire my fifteen year old +POS protector and am looking. A lot of guys in my association have the K1 from Honigs and recommend it. However, I've found two other CP's that look exactly the same for a lot less money and am wondering if any of you know of any differences. To be honest it looks like they are the same and simply rebadged. I called Honigs and they claim the other two are knock offs. Anyway, here are the links:

sort of a tangent, but in looking at the Honig's offerings....

who cares what color your CP is if its under a shirt?

I have seen the Pro-Nine CP up close and it is no where near the quality of the K-1. The Champion is the same as the Pro-Nine, a cheap knock-off.

I have a K-1 and would not use anything else. Get the K-1 and you will never regret it.

For the same reason the base umpires are supposed to match T-shirt colors under their shirts. You can see that portion of the CP where the shirt buttons are. It's just a fashion plate issue.

I suppose you could buy several K-1s and mix and match with your outfit!:p

I have a K-1 and it's the most comfortable protector I've ever owned. Protection isn't the only issue, but this protector has done a good job of that, too.

Anyone know anything about the "Gerry Davis Chest Protector?" I'm on an extremely tight budget & I've got it down to the GD & the V-Sport from Lesters. I'm a VERY big guy (300+ lb, 62" Shoulders, 22" Neck) & I need a BIG protector! I just got put on the list for college subbing for the rest of the year so I need something pretty good but yet under $100 w/ shipping. I know several will say step up & get the Platinum or something like it but the $$$ just isn't in the budget right now. :(

Thanks!

Get the best you can afford

I've worn the Platinum for a couple of years now and I'm very happy with it. If I was shopping for a new one today I'd consider the Jerry Davis of Honigs protectors. I understand that price does weigh into your decision but why skimp when considering your personal safety. A broken collar bone or rib will surely cost more than the money saved on a cheaper protector.

If you saw it on TV, it must be true...

The v-sport would do just as well at preventing broken bones, it just wouldn't have that "I'm a big time umpire" look. If you are getting hit that often with baseballs, either your mechanics suck, or the catcher's mechanics suck. Either way, it's fixable without putting out $200 on a bigger logo.

Trust me, at the levels most of us work, it is 100% the catcher not living up to his title.
