I recevied a call early this morning that the partner I was supposed to have for my games today, suddenly died of a massive heart attack last night. This man was only 44 years old. I worked for the first time with him last week, and he was an excellent umpire. Please keep his wife in your thoughts and prayers! Thanks.

Ben:

It's a sad day for all of us when a fellow official passes away. And even more so at such an early age.

Sorry to hear of the passing of a fellow official,
especially one so young.

WHOM THE GODS LOVE DIE YOUNG. Byron.

Please, everyone, consider spending $400 and getting an electron tomography heart scan - it can detect potential blockage problems that treadmills and stress tests won't catch. It's painless and takes 20 minutes. If they had this technology 20 years ago my dad would still be alive. Condolences to those who have lost loved ones, friends, and brothers in blue.

I had triple by-pass surgery ten years ago. I
was umpiring then, and do now. Once the
problems are detected and taken care of and you
follow the medication prescribed and watch the
things you eat, you can continue right on doing
the things you want. The long tournaments in
July/August are the ones that you really want to
watch your fluid intake when performing. Drink
plenty and eat fruits. Water is best fluid.
Strawberries, bannanas and oranges great for
snacking.

Thanks

I just want to thank all of you for your concern.

It's indeed a sad time. I lost a good buddy and umpire three years ago to an illness at the age of 40. I myself had a heart attack and quadruple bypass two days after my 41st birthday. A month later I was working a state semi-pro final at second.

We're having a good thought for him.
