Ok, so it is a very hot day (which has no relevance on the story), and the pitcher is having difficulty. There is a runner on third and a 3-0 count. "Ball four, take your base”, the batter goes to first and the runner at third advances a couple steps. Neither the pitcher nor the catcher sees him. He moves a few more steps. The catcher returns the ball towards the pitcher and the runner on third takes off. By the time the pitcher catches the ball and realizes what has happened the runner has already scored.

So then the coach says, "hey blue did you walk the batter?"

I respond, "Yes, can’t you see her on first?"

The coach says, "Then the runner can’t advance, that run shouldn't count, he should have to go back to third, it’s a dead ball."

And i said "No the run counts"

The coach than says, " Well than maybe you should read the rule book blue"

I look back at the dug out and said "you are dead wrong the only thing you said that was accurate was the fact that the batter was walked, now sit down and shut up." I turned back to the catcher and said "Pitch now" and the idiot sat down and shut up.

I just find it so funny when the coaches open their mouths and show how little they know. I mean I lost all respect for that coach at that moment and was ready to eject him if he said one more word.

if i was this much of an idiot, id probably keep it to myself, not sure about you guys

Are you always a smart-alec Tim? And to the guy who wrote that last post, are you talking about drumbum or the coach?

NFump Sat Jul 23, 2005 10:10pm

Yes and Drumbum

DG Sat Jul 23, 2005 10:12pm

It is best not to have a battle of wits with someone who is unarmed. Unless a coach, while saying something really stupid, says something personal or profane, I generally ignore him, turn away and get a great big grin on my face. Sometimes that will provoke him to say something personal or profane, and then...

What did I do that was idiotic? A coach not only said something that was wrong and just plain stupid, but they also in turn accused me of not knowing the rules.

I still think DumbDrum is Lance's brother and this has to be a sham. No one could be this ignorant and stupid. And was it a he or a she who scored? And way to go on the spelling did you purchase a dictionary?

cowbyfan1 Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:29am

Let me spell it out for ya drumbum. Do not tell a coach to shut up. Tell him the conversation is over. Tell him you're done discussing it. Tell him something along those lines. Don't tell him to shut up. It puts you as the out of control fool, which based off most of your posts may not be a reach.

Also, based off your post it appears you got into the shouting match from home plate to the dugout. Also not a good thing.

You know what it was a hot day, close to about 110 degrees (in fact in bush stadium about 15 miles from were the game took place it was 120 degrees) and I wasn't going to take any crap. Like I said what that coach said was just plain stupid so I was a little mad about having to waste my breath telling that coach how stupid what they said was. So yeah, I was pretty rude to him. But when a coach tells me to learn the rulebook after saying something that is completely wrong I fell just to give them a little lip back.

Is this a league where the batters wouldn't know to go to first on ball four?

At least you didn't warn him with "not one more word ..." that's a start.

In other words, it's fun to jump in the mud with the pigs?

umpduck11 Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:40am

Drumbum.....
You "lost all respect for that coach" ?
Just how much respect do you feel you garnered
by yelling "shut up" to an adult across the field ?
That was a very immature way to handle the situation,
IMHO.......

jxt127 Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:50am

I never saw the point to get down in the mud with a coach.

Last week I had one that refused to change pitchers on his 2nd trip to the mound (within 5 pitches) becuase "He wasn't told it was a trip therefore it didn't count".

a cop told me once to learn the rules of the road, and i felt that he was wrong and i didnt run that red light, so i told him he was a total jackass and that he looked stupid with that hat on.

BigUmp56 Sun Jul 24, 2005 11:50am

Brian,

How much did you have to pay for the ticket he then wrote you?

GarthB Sun Jul 24, 2005 12:09pm

My first year on the force I still had braces on my teeth. I had stopped a guy for doing 36 in a 25. As was customary I was going to write him up for doing 31. He laughed at my braces.

He got a ticket for the full 36 plus a broken tail light.

He11, I'll bite:
Did you have to eject the pitcher who needed replacing, or was launching the coach sufficient to "git'er done"?

jxt127 Sun Jul 24, 2005 09:41pm

After I insisted it was 2 visits and he HAD to do it he changed pitchers.

Given the ages of the players I didn't send him to the parking lot although a second NO and he would have been gone.

On the other hand he did insist on protesting. Not sure if he ever followed up on that and paid in the 50$ protest fee.

DG Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:38pm

If a coach told me he did not have to change pitchers because he was not told his first trip was a trip, I would tell him he has two choices, change the pitcher or be tossed, and his assistant can change pitchers.
