As it was explained to me...
Runners at 1st and 2nd. Ground ball is hit to F6 (ss) and hits the base runner trying to advance to 3rd (clearly past an infielder and the SS has a play) so the base runner is out but in the confusion and trying to assit the injured player the runner from 1st scores! Clearly bizzare that no defensive player picks up the ball since it still must be in the infield somewhere (remember I did not see this incident occur). The parent asked me my thoughts. Well since I umpired the last four years in LL (took this year off) I would have called the runner out and a dead ball putting the runner back to first base. So what is the correct call? Regards, Mike |

Easy call.
Ball hits runner. Dead ball. Runner is out. BR is awarded first. All other runners return to TOP base (unless forced to advance by the placement of the BR on first. So in your case, runner out, BR to first, Runner from first placed on second. -Josh |
