Sitch: Routine double play F6 to F4 to F3, I'm in B and the play is close but an out with the relay being right at F3, no obvious problems. I bang it. I have good view of the play. Now the coach wants a pulled foot and for me to check with PU. I don't, my call and I already made it.

Earlier in the game, from C, I was straight lined with F3 up the line and swiping for a tag with the BR who was from my perspective right behind F3. I immediatly point at PU and yell - TAG??! We pre-gamed this. He immediately gives me a safe, I mirror.

My problem is effectively communicating the concept of "one play one call". This coach just wouldn't accept me not checking with PU.

Thoughts? Should I do something different?

Sounds like it was fine to me. It was your call, period. If you think there's something you didn't see, get help. If you saw it clearly, sit down and let's play ball coach.

since i've just got roasted for suggesting that UIC follow a play to first even with a runner at first or also at second.....just a suggestion, mind you.....not trying to nominate a mechanic for sainthood......

i think you did good......i also think the glance and signal between you and your partner was the right way to go

and, talking about such situations before the game gave you an over whelming edge....

if you were base umpire and i plate umpire...i would not have come to you, unsolicited, to say "Hey, Mikey [synonym for newbie, non-experienced] umpire, wanna hear what i got?"

I don't believe that the "roasting" you received was due to the suggestion of having the plate umpire "follow" the play to first, but for suggesting that the PU call outto the BU insinuating he missed the call (and possibly creating a huge $h!t storm with the rats and fans). JMHO
