In a thread (from another site) about how to keep cool in the heat:

We use a chemical sprayer tank (get 'em at your local home and garden store) Be sure to cleary mark it "water only".
It's about a 5 gallon tank with a spray wand attached. Fill it up with ice/water and mist the kids when they come off the field. Squirt an ump between innings too. Most of them really enjoy it - kind of like scratching a stray dog on it's belly - these guys take so much abuse any kindness is appreciated!

Spray the ump with ice water

Please don't come to my field with a spray bottle and spray me between innings.
I will find a way to keep cool if I need to, but I don't need that kind of help.

Last week, after a tourney and with me going to the car, the winning coach came running toward me with an ice cooler closely following him.
Coach saw me and put on the brakes. The cooler kept coming.
He got a little wet, ... and it was 96 degrees. [shrug]

Last weekend at a 9U tournament, one of the PLAYERS kept bringing me gatorade. Same kid. Was the nicest thing that happened to me that afternoon, I'll tell you that.

Thumbs up Keeping Cool!!

Did a large tourney one time that had a crew on each field to bring the umps water or gatoraide. They also had a cooler/ice chest full of ice water and a dish towel to wipe down with or wrap around your neck. It was wonderful to get treated like the football guys do.

One thing that I have found to be very helpful is something called a "Cool Wrap". It looks like a piece of a neck tie (about 24" long), but contains some absorbent material inside it. You soak it in cold water and then just wrap it around your neck. Here in Fla, they can make all the difference in the world. If you're on the dish, they slip right in around the edge of your CP and nobody will know nothing.

Cool Keeping Cool is Cool

I would agree with all that there are great ways to keep cool ( I guess I thought that was implied by my post ). And I utilize most of those listed here in the posts.
What I meant was, I do not want an over zealous 12 year old to come running up to me with a ( low ) pressurized device and spray me in the eyes, face, etc., or coat me head to toe with water ( who will certainly think it very funny that he can do that to an umpire and get away with it - kids . . . . !).
Whle I appreciate the thought, as I said, I'll keep cool in my own way.
