Anyone know if either of these guys is injured? Barksdale and Guccione have been up for a while, and I noticed tonight that Charlie Reliford (the crew chief) has gone on vacation, and Larry Poncino has slid in from Gary Darling's crew to lead Reliford's. Hope this isn't another Jeff Kellogg situation where these guys miss substantial amounts of time....

If my memory and info is correct, MLB is pondering the idea of adding another 4 man crew to roster next year, so I think this is why we are saying so many Triple A guys working right now.

Angel Hernandez was injured behind the plate in an Angels-Indians game about a month or so ago. He was limping and finished the game, but was replaced the next day by Barksdale. Runge had been out since about early May, returned for a game in June (he called a balk on Smoltz I remember), and has been out ever since that game. He worked one game and then left again.

I would think those are just guys on vacation. Tim timmons and Mark Wegner just were missing last night after working over the weekend. It is interesting though....
On edit: just curious, where did you find that list? I didn't see it on the WUA site. [Edited by mattmets on Jun 28th, 2005 at 04:47 PM] |
Just my own figuring out from box scores...
Subject says it all...

The only injuries are Brian Runge, Jeff Kellogg (due back after All Star break), and Rick Reed. |
Any idea what happened to Rick Reed? If I remember correctly he missed some time a couple years ago as well.

Rick Reed
Rick Reed was hit in the head with a foul ball and left the game last week. He was replaced by Brian Knight.

Brian Runge missed last night's (July 18) Angel game and only three umpires worked game. On Sunday, Glaus knocked Runge over going for a foul ball.
