what rules restrict where a manager/coach can coach from?

example: home team dugout is open behind ther fence for access. home team manager is giving orders and encouarging his players from area behind the fence from the dugout to nearly the home side of the back stop(effectively 6ft short of home plate).

another common example: coaches standing outside their dugout in the field (ie: siting on buckets leaning against the dugout fence) how far do you let that go .

thank you for your opinions

I had an opposing assistant coach do that and brought it up to the Plate Ump. He put the guy back in the dugout.

This guy was a real jerk. He had allegedly beat up a guy with a bat during a beer league softball game.

I did it just to get his goat.

You antagonized a guy who is known to assault people with a baseball bat? And you did it on purpose?

If it was a FED game, he was just enforcing rule 3-3-1J. So you had a rule to back up your attempt to "get his goat". I would have been looking over my shoulder though leaving the field. Of course, the guy was probably nice and drunk in that beer league softball game :D.

3-3-1J also deals with buckets outside of the dugout.

I'm probably gonna get shelled for this - but here goes.
Do you really prohibit all coaches at all levels from sitting on the buckets outside the dugout?
I have watched varsity games where other umpires have allowed this. I have thus allowed it at the JV and freshman levels.
What DO you do without looking like over officiating?
Be gentle I just woke up and haven't had my first coffee yet.
