12 y/o travel game, 1 hr. 18 min., 4-3 good game. Losing team is up in top of the fifth, an inside pitch makes the batter duck, he gets hit in the helmet. The only problem was his helment was in the strike zone at the time. I call the pitch a strike and keep him in the box. The third base coach says the ball hit him and I tell him his head was in the strike zone when he got hit. End of discussion and on with the game. Wow, I thought I was in for a sh**house, nothing, not even from the fans, will wonders never cease.

I called this same thing a couple of years ago. The player's dad wasn't too happy but all I heard from the rest of the stands was "someone finally called it".
The kid had a habit of ducking his head into the strike zone. He'd done it the pitch before, didn't do it the rest of the game. Not a word from the coaches. |
