Yikes.
I think you listed it too cheap. I'd bet you can get over $150 for it. I got about $125 for mine last year, and wasn't nearly as nice as yours. I dumped mine after a concussion. Two direct shots in one game left me more stupid than usual. No more plastic masks for me, I don't care if they're weightless. [Edited by kylejt on Apr 13th, 2005 at 11:58 AM] |

Well, I was given mine! I guy who I worked with a lot got of the game and let me go thru his gear!!
Therefore, I Paid $0.00 for it! |
PT was correct. Heck, I got over $250 for my Douglas West Vest. Between that, and the SUL, the profit paid for my gear for the year.
Go figure. |

He!!, Douglas is still making the bloody things, or the near equivalent, aren't they? And selling 'em new for $100US, last I looked. |
I never have liked the looked of these masks -- look kind of fake to me for some reason.

Isn't this the mask Plus POS stopped making after it was discovered that a spinning ball striking the mask just right could squeeze between the bars and hit the umpire in the face?

"Just being nosy, but has the $ arrived yet [for the WV]?"
Yup. I guess there's a difference in the quality of the newer vs. older ones. I compared them directly, and didn't see much of a difference. I've concluded it's cult thing. I had SUL mask, and there's no way you could get a ball in between those bars. They're incredibly light, and if you're doing mulitple games it's a plus. But they're fairly flat, and transfer a lot of energy to your brain. I prefer a more rounded frame, that deflects rather than absorbs. I heard there was a problem with the early SUL's, that was corrected quickly. I never had a structual problem with mine. I was quite stout, and I'd use it again if I were doing softball games. |

If you remember back when they first came out, NCAA approved them and then quickly disallowed them becuase there were a few instances of a ball getting through. Hell, even Sylvia Parsons(while she was still alive) at +POS told people that the shouldn't use them for baseball. And yes, I have actually seen a foul ball go through the mask. Luckily they Ump didn't get seriously hurt, a broken nose and some stitches for his face. |
