I am working on an article with regard to game fees for high school baseball. In Texas we receive $35 and game and charge .37 cents per mile. If both officials drive we only get paid for one way. I would like to know what the game fee and mileage is in other states.

In Northern Ohio we receive $ 40.00 for any High School Baseball or Softball game. We do not receive mileage or any other compensation - whether we drive 2 miles or 45 ( which I have done ). My association takes 10% of the game fee. That leaves me with $ 36.00 per game. If you do the math, I probably pay to officiate. If we work a game alone ( usually there are two officials for each High School game ), we only get pay for one - nothing more.
By the way, I also do Volleyball and Wrestling and there is no mileage for those sports either. |
Here in IL. Usually all games pay $40, if you work a DH anywhere from $70-$90. No mileage.

Suffolk County, Long Island, NY
Varsity - $100 JV - $ 81 JH - $ 61 Each umpire, 2 man games, no mileage. Ed H |
Can't reply for the whole state, but around here it is $55 for varsity and $45 for JV. No mileage and I have had games an hour and a half from home.
|
In Central NC, we get $55 a game for varsity and $50 for JV. We don't get paid for mileage. Our assignor tries to keep us within a hour from home.

Alabama:
$40 V (2-man); $35 V (3-man) $35 JV $30 Freshman and below Milage is paid if the site is 10+ miles away from our centralized meeting place. State Dues: $30 Assn Dues: $50 |
Well,
It is a little more complex in Oregon:
We get paid not only by level (varsity/JV/Frosh) but also by size of school. AAAA Schools (Oregon Largest) -- 2 man $43.50 each AAA Schools (Next sized) -- 2 man $41.50 each AA Schools (Next sized) -- 2 man $39.50 each AAAA JV -- 2 man $33.00 each AAA JV -- 2 man $31.00 each AA JV -- 2 man $29.00 each All Sized School -- Frosh -- -- 2 man $31.00 each We get .37 per mile and we get paid round trip. We have one school that the round trip is 2 miles and we have another school where the mileage is $55.00 which is far over the game fee. We pay $75 for our FED Packet. Some of this goes to the state (FED) and part to our local. Each of our games is "taxed" 13% to pay our Assigning Commissioner. [Edited by Tim C on Mar 31st, 2005 at 01:32 PM] |
In my district in SC we get:
Plate $33 (bases $28) plus minimum $5 milage. Milage is .25 cents per mile both ways. So at our farthest reach schools we can get a check for +/- $60. This is state fee. JV fees are same. Another district gets a $50 fee no matter where in district they go. Don;t know how they did it but they did |
Here in SW Missouri it varies by school, but my association ask $45 per varsity game and 30 cents per mile round trip.
|
Oklahoma City
Varsity-----$40 JV----------$30 no mileage Okc Assn. Dues------$20 State Assoc. Dues---$35 assignors get a fee from school for scheduling officials. jl |
Spokane....$42 for Varsity, $8 flate rate mileage for "in-town" games and 40.5 cents per mile for out of town games, round trip. Since our service area is 80 miles east to west and over 100 miles north and south, mileage checks are often more than game fees.

two bits, I am in West Plains, where are you Springfield? We get the same here as two bits.
|
Scyguy, I'm north of Joplin in the Nevada area.
|
Here in Iowa it depends on the school, but most of them are $75-85 for a Varsity and JV game (same night)with no mileage paid.

New Jersey (Southern)
No travel money.... Baseball and Softball same amounts Varsity (plate)...64.00, (bases)...58.00 Sub-varsity (plate)...46.00, (bases)...40.00 At the start of each season you decise how many games you want per week and pay assignor one set amount accordingly... 1 per week = 25.50 2......... = 51.00 3......... = 76.50 4 or more.. = 102.00 If you are assigned less than you pay you get a partial refund at the end of the season...If you pick up an extra game or two here or there there is NO additional charge...weather does not help you in getting refunds...If you have a bunch of games cancelled......they still count because they were assigned....kind of balances out the games you pick up during the season and are not charged for. Location of schools is not too bad, plus the assignor tries to keep you as close as possible from work/home. |
Peruvian:
Are association fees set (or maxed) by the state of Alabama? Our dues are $85, $30 of which goes to Mr.Brew...ummm ,I mean the state. |
Game Fees
Referee Magazine had a huge spread sheet on officials fees for many different sports including baseball
I think it was in November it might be good reference material |
Central Connecticut

Game Fees in Israel
Gentlemen,
Here in Israel, our games pay 50 shekels (about $11.50 at today's exchange rate) for plate or field, except in our senior league (18+), which pays 75 shekels for the plate and 50 shekels for the field. If an umpire wants travel money he can get it by turning in gas or bus receipts. When we were organizing our senior league about 4 years ago, I negotiated 125 shekels for the plate and 100 for the field, but to cut costs they decided to only pay 75/50 shekels per game and supply 2 baseballs. I did "force" the league to pay both fees to a guy going solo. Most of our adult umpires work for free (due to goofy tax laws), but our teens are in it for the money. :-) I generally do youth games for free, but on principle, expect adults to pay their way. |

Here in eastern Ontario. We get $41 plate and 31 base for the men's league. $48 and $40 for under 18 elite. For HS we get $28 for both during the regular season (one man crew), and $28 plate and $21 base for the playoffs. Other areas in Ontario pay more for HS.

Amounts
Junior High Mid School $23
JV $24 Varsity $40 Schools must also pay Gross Reciepts Tax on Game Fees so the varsity ends up at 44.80 $0.30 per mile Meals over 50 miles but less than 150 one way $10 over 150 $15 Rider fee officials who are riding (non-drivers only) receive a $10.00 fee per assigned trip on trips of 51 miles or more one-way. |
Eastern Idaho
2-man Baseball Varsity $47 each JV $39 each (I think) One official gets mileage $0.33 per mile for the first 50 miles ($15) and $0.25 per mile for every mile thereafter - round trip. I believe our most distant trip for baseball is about 150 miles round trip - $40 |
